Sometimes a studio will take a movie away from a director, drive it in its van to a secluded location, and do horrible things to it.
And still, when the baby is born, when the film is released, THAT is the film. If the director can put together a director's cut later, as Gilliam has, and we can see how much better it is than the studio hack-job, we're all the better for it. But then there are two Brazils - the original theatrical cut and the video-only director's cut. I think in the case of a director who has final cut (as Tarantino did) it's more cut-and-dry. The film you see is the film Tarantino intended. Or at least the best he could come to his intentions through the media. |
Why not put the old extra stuff on the super set? oh, right milking.
I'm tired of DVDs being mainstream. Every article I read about a movie now has someone saying how on the DVD they'll have something special, as if they're leaving out stuff to put on the DVD. Enough! |
Yeah, we need a niche format again, like LD, where the transfers were crappy and licensed out freely to sub-standard companies, where we can pay $200 for a multi-disc set of discs that we have to flip over every half an hour, where we have to travel an hour and a half to find a store that sells them, and we can show off our home theatres to visiting friends and family and watch the drool slowly ooze down their chin as they grind their teeth in envy...

The Asian cut and the American/European cut are BOTH what QT intended - and it's up to me to decide which I prefer - it's not as cut-and-dry as you make it up to be. |

Ok! This thread is getting way too long to find the answer to my one question: Does anyone have a date for the region 1 release of this?! I am hoping it is before vol. 2 cause I would love to get a refresher of the first volume before the second. Thanks!
