Adaptation SE!?!?!

According to the review for the Work of Spike Jonze DVD, there is a trailer for an upcoming special edition of Adaptation. I'm kinda upset about this, since I just went out and bought the Superbit on release day under the assumption that nothing better was in the works. I hadn't even heard anything about this until I read the review.

I'm glad I didn't buy it yet. If I 'member right, the Adaptation DVD came with no extras. You gotta expect a SE in those cases.

PalmerJoss 10-02-03 07:45 AM

I expected this. I mean it is from Columbia, so why should any of us be surprised? This doesn't bother me as much, though, because I expected to have to double-dip when I bought the dvd in the first place. I loved the film, and the sound and picture are excellent so I won't mind going in for a SE of the movie.

DealMan 10-02-03 10:37 AM

I heard Susan Orlean was working on some kind of bonus material for the SE, I'm so happy I didn't buy this one yet! (and I was tempted with Blockbuster's B2G1F deal)

darqleo 10-02-03 01:37 PM

I'm glad I held off to. I saw it in the theater and liked it a lot, but it's not one of those movies you need to get on DVD right away or watch over and over again.

rockinghorse 10-02-03 01:55 PM

I figured this would happen but couldn't wait for this movie any longer. I'll double dip for the SE!! I just did it for Fargo. Well I guess the time span was a little different. But still...

37 In A Row 10-02-03 01:59 PM

Please let there be Donald Kauffman commentary!

the narrator 10-02-03 03:53 PM

kind of sucks, but oh well I didn't like it enough to buy it over again

Jackskeleton 10-02-03 04:01 PM

I'm not surprised. I just bought it on dvd. That is a clear sign that a dvd will go SE. :p

jamieoni 10-02-03 04:46 PM

If they do, I'm hoping they stay smart and don't put anything on that might go about "explaining" the film. A commentary seems like such a waste, ruining the charm of the picture.

Then again, are we sure this isn't really just a trailer for the existing edition?

The Void 10-02-03 04:51 PM

That sucks. I bought it and haven't even got around to watching it yet. Oh well, this one doesn't bother me too much.

DonnachaOne 10-02-03 05:20 PM

If there is a commentary, it has to be from Charlie Kaufman.

... and Donald Kaufman. Both voiced by Nicolas Cage, in character.

Cornelius1047 10-02-03 05:26 PM

Whoa. I'm glad I didn't finish picking out my CH DVDs, cuz this was on that list. I'm willing to wait it out as long as it comes along eventually (preferably within the next couple months or so). So, now all I need is Panic Room, and that's apparently also underway.

I've already watched the dvd over 5 times - by myself and with other people...

As soon as I saw the trailer on the Spike Jonze disc, I figured I'd mention it in the review. I was going to post a seperate note on the message boards, but ya beat me to it! :)

Sadly, no release date was mentioned...only "coming soon!"

Damn, i bought it in a buy 2 get 1 free deal. But ill be more then happy to double dip this one.

DVDho78DTS 10-02-03 07:03 PM

Groovy. Been waiting on this.

theneobez 10-02-03 07:39 PM

I don't really care for extras on a movie like this, I think I'll go ahead and buy the Superbit as it's fairly cheap right now. All I really need is good audio/video.

The Antipodean 11-02-03 12:20 AM

Does anybody know what kind of content is going to be on this one? I actually for once did the smart thing and didn't buy the first one because I'd heard there might be an SE, and I'm eager. The new "Work of Spike Jonze" DVD has what it calls an "Adaptation SE trailer" but it's actually just the movie trailer with a little crawl at the end promising "bonus features" which kind of annoyed me -- I hope it'll be a great disc, this was one of my favorites of 2002.

jough 11-03-03 10:04 PM

I've watched this one several times and have loaned it to a bunch of people who have watched it several times. I've gotten my money's worth out of this one.

I'd probably double-dip if the extras were compelling enough. There was a lot of talk about the upcoming SE when the original was released (search is your friend) so I wouldn't feel ripped off.

There's a "Panic Room" SE coming up too... eventually. By the time the Adaptation SE is released it'll have been close to a year (considering it hasn't been even announced yet) that I'll have been enjoying the current release.

jarofclay73 11-03-03 11:46 PM

I'll wait to see what the extras are for Adaptation SE. If it's not great, I'll stick with my Superbit. I think this movie may actually be BETTER if nothing is explained.

Decker 11-04-03 01:22 AM

Since Charlie Kauffman won't even acknowledge that his brother Donald is fictional, I doubt that there will be a whole lot explained in this one. We'll see.

jough 11-04-03 02:35 AM

Donald is fictional?!?!?

He was nominated for an Academy Award. ;)

rockinghorse 11-05-03 05:25 PM

I can't wait till "The 3" comes out!!! ;)

Looks like a good one.

Looks like a good one.

It already has. They changed the title to "Identity".
