House On Haunted Hill Question (old version)
I recently picked up the new House on Haunted Hill dvd for 5.99, and really enjoyed it. After watching the comparison extra of this version, and the original, I'm wanting to see the older one.
My question, anybody know which version is the best to purchase? Looking at ddd, there are no less then 4 seemingly different versions with no additional info. One comes as a double feature with the movie Bat, and all range between 5-10 bucks.
I don't mind spending the extra 5 if those versions are better, but also don't mind taking the cheapy if there is no difference.
Anybody have a version and can attest to how good or bad their version is?
Thanks.

You definitely want the Warner version (WBD060913 at DDD). All others are either mediocre transfers or from mediocre prints.

I have this version here:
I picked it up for 7 bucks, and it has all the quality of a public domain movie transfered from Laserdisc to DVD (Heck, the very end of Last Man on Earth has the blue screen -STOP- as the source master runs out). Yeah, it's not that great - but 2 Vincent Price movies for the price of a hamburger? You cant beat that deal with a stick.
I also got two Christopher Lee films for about the same price and about the same quality. It's very much a "You get what you pay for" publisher.

You want the version Shill66 linked to, skip everything else. Any version of HHH that is a doublefeature is an inferior quality transfer. The aspect ratio's are also off. The Warner version looks and sounds the best, and is in OAR.

I have the Diamond disc as well, and I found the quality of HoHH to be quite good. "Last Man on Earth" is another story, but I'm happy just to have it at all...and a fine "fill in" until hopefully a time when a proper release occurs.
I think that at $5 the Diamond disc is a fine value.

I think the confusion in listingsis because this disc has both the WS and PS versions, and often only the PS gets listed, or no ratio for the widescreen is listed. Like the link to DDD shows, it's both P&S and widescreen anamorphic, but no ratio listed for anamorphic. Check out Amazon's link:

You get both ratios.

Spaceboy,
"The Last Man on Earth" was just released by itself in widescreen by the last studio on earth you would buy anything from...Madacy!!!
I have it and it looks pretty good, much better than that other version.
It's 2.0, non-anomorphic with original movie trailer, movie lobby poster and a stupid trivia quiz...whoopie!!!
Unless a major restores it, this is as good as it gets!
