16x9 Display Gitch
There is an authoring glitch on the first printing of Criterion’s edition of Playtime. Two supplements—an introduction by Terry Jones, and Tati’s 1967 short Cours du Soir—were inadvertently flagged to play back in 16x9 mode, causing the image to appear vertically compressed and letterboxed rather than full-frame. This problem has been corrected on all subsequent printings of this DVD.

As the CC version is quite expensive to obtain, some patience for (perhaps) even a better image might be a good idea.
