A Midnight Clear in Widescreen?

I did a search on this and found no mention, so I really really hope I am not posting old info.

I was poking around on Amazon and noticed A Midnight Clear on the preorder list with a release date of October 7. From the price, $12.71 and the fact it came out awhile ago, I assumed it was a price drop. I passed on the first release, despite liking the movie because it was released in Full Screen.

Just out of curiousity I checked the specs, and lo and behold, it says Widescreen!

Just thought I would pass this info along. And if anyone has any more info, feel free to share.

Just a pricedrop on the 4:3 version, sadly. No widescreen version. Amazon is mistaken.

I have this recorded on DVD and anamorphically enhanced from UK digital TV.

It looks framed correctly too.

I believe 4:3 is OAR.

1.85:1 is the OAR. The DVD is misframed.

If you don't believe me, listen to the director.

(By the way, he is incorrect in that post about the availability of the film letterboxed on laserdisc. The studio released it in full frame despite his supervising a widescreen transfer.)

Yeah, he's incorrect about The Chocolate War too. Unless I'm completely confused (and that's possible, I haven't watched it in over a year), the LD is also 1.33:1.

In a prior Midnight Clear thread, I thought I read that the current DVD is open matte (which is why I placed it back on my wantlist) - can someone confirm?

Yup, the studio screwed him over on both discs.

It is open matte, but the film was still composed for 1.85:1.
