Scarface DVD review over @ HTF

http://www.hometheaterforum.com/htfo...hreadid=160151
I guess the bottom line is that while it is not eye-popping, this new transfer is leaps and bounds above the quality of the one found on the Collector’s Edition of Scarface, despite all of the audio tracks competing for space on the disc, and the film’s three-hour running time. With that in mind, I think the transfer on this Scarface: Anniversary Edition DVD is something of a triumph for Universal!

This sounds like a keeper to me! I was worried about how the transfer would be given that there's so many audio tracks on the disc!

With Universal, any kind of incompetency is possible.

I can't wait until this ships out! I have been wanting this since 1999 when I first got into DVDs. I once bought the original version only to sell it for big bucks on Ebay since I refused to own something that looked that poor.

Any posts containg "is there an insert" or "Good Burger Criterion edition" should result in a mandatory 5 day ban.

I disagree. When done well, an insert joke can be very funny.

This was not an instance where it was done well, so I partially agree with your sentiment.

The question is, does it have forced trailers at the beginning?

Sadly, the new DVD does NOT have the one-hour long "Making of Scarface" documentary on the Collector's Edition that is a MUST SEE for any fan of the movie.

no it does!!! Its just split over a few featurettes. This was confirmed when a poster posted the front and back cover arts.

I wonder how the Anniversary edition transfer compares to the R2 Collector's Edition anamorphic release.

It appears that the R1 release is the exact transfer of R2 - according to two individuals on another forum who compared them.

I don't have the old release, so this new one is no brainer for me

The only decision to make is to buy this anniversary edition or the giftset...

Multiple audio tracks? Did they re-do the soundtrack?

Do you guys think this re-release will be easy to find? I believe this is one of the most anticipated re-releases of a DVD, ever, sicen the 1998 went OOP fast. I'm wondering if I'll be able to get it at Best Buy, or should I pre order it to make sure I get it.

It was remixed for 5.1, Dolby and dts.

I think the question should be "will this be easy to AVOID". There'll be ten shelves of this everywhere*.

*Hyperbole, of course.

the new R1 thats coming out or the old R1. If you are saying the old one thats incorrect as the R2 is anamorphic and the old R1 wasnt.
