RABID DOGS fans: There was a screening of the KIDNAPPED cut of this flick at the American Cinematheque in L.A. some months back. Word of mouth afterwards was that the RABID DOGS cut is much better. That said, I rented RABID DOGS and thought it was good, but not one I'd pay big bucks for. If you live in L.A., Cinefile has a CD-R of it for rent. Come to think of it, I bet LaserBlazer carries it as well (though not sure)

From: on a river in a kayak..where else?
for those not familiar with Rabid Dogs....HERE is a peek.
HERE is another.

HERE is another.

Wow. That's all I have to say about this movie. Okay, fine -- I'm lying. I'd never give up a chance to rattle on about a movie, so I won't start with Rabid Dogs. But still, wow. If anybody out there loves movies in general, loves DVD and loves movies that grab on tight and won't let go -- you have to buy this movie now. The back of the DVD says it best -- "Imagine Quentin Tarantino remaking Last House On The Left inside a speeding car".

CC's THE KILLER
As for Criterion's THE KILLER (and - to a lesser degree - HARD BOILED), the transfers leave much to be desired. I was checking out both discs in my pc-dvd drive the other day, and noticed that THE KILLER - including supplements - is all under 4gb and is presented on a single-sided single-layered disc.

The current MIB 2-disk "Deluxe" edition is the same thing as the original LE, with worse packaging and a trailer for MIB 2 on it.

And another vote for MST3K the movie. It's non-anamorphic, but it looks very good zoomed on my 16x9. Who at Universal do we need to kick in the nuts to get this re-released as a director's cut?

I noticed it was getting re-released 12/16/03.
Why did the first release go out of print and what is different about the re-release?

Fave OOP DVD is The Wicker Man Region 2 box set. It contained a few things the Anchor Bay version didn't - commentary from Christopher Lee, Edward Woodward and director Robin Hardy and the original CD soundtrack. It was limited to 5000 copies.

Dawn of The Dead: Anniversary Edition
I wish it wasn't still going for so much. Even though there is a re-release coming out in the next couple months and a HUGE set planned later this year, I still would like a copy of this movie thats not on VHS (which I have)

FYI, everybody, the two-disc 'Fight Club' is not out of print, and the second printing of it is (from what I understand) not different than the first (unlike, for instance, the second printing of 'Independence Day' or 'The Abyss', where the covers are different).
My favorite OOP disc is the recalled 'Little Shop', because I love the alternate ending.
Another one is 'Trees Lounge', because the one that's in print is fullscreen, the one that's OOP is widescreen and has a commentary track.
When my entire collection was stolen, I bought the Criterion 'Spinal Tap' to comfort myself, so I'll always have a soft spot for that disc too. Much better organization to the deleted scenes than on the SE, also.
