Mi-5 Dvd ?

I've caught a couple of these episodes on A&E and found them to be very good. I was wondering if they had been released anywhere on disc. I've done searches at Blackstar & Amazon but have found nothing.

Anybody have any ideas or know anything?

MI-5 is the US rename. Its original title is "Spooks", and the first season (6 episodes) is available in R2 right now. The R2 set is very nice.

The R1 DVD is set for some unspecified time this winter, under the US title "MI-5".

Yes, please do get the [spooks] version...

it's widescreen, and the episodes are a full 60 minutes each (not chopped and pan/scamed like the A&E episodes).

OK so I got "Spooks" season one and I have to say I am extremely impressed! Not only with the outstanding quality of the series itself, but the presentation I.E. Audio/Video/commentaries and extras is equally great.

I have to say that the menus are ingenious! Their level of interactivity is tres' cool. I've only seen episodes 1-3 and am already looking forward to season 2. Thanks for the heads up regarding the R2 release guys.

I can only hope that the R1 set is equally as cool

also i think the region 1 set will be just exactly like the region 2 set, just with the name change.

I also received Spooks Season 1 in the mail the other day and watched the first two episodes. There was a big surprise in the second episode that I never saw coming. So much so that there's even a featurette on the DVD devoted to it.

The transfers and 5.1 audio are great, but I have to disagree about the menus. They're cleverly done, but after the first time you see them, they become very annoying. BTW, I could be wrong but I don't think there's any sign of PAL speedup on these DVDs. The episodes each last almost exactly one hour. Had there been speedup, wouldn't they have come in at closer to 55-56 minutes?

You're right Doughboy, they do get tiring after the first couple of episodes.

The editing that is done to par them done for the correct US running time sucks! I'd never buy anything but the edited versions.

Woah! I didnt even hear about the last three. Cruise was great in the first, but the second was pretty bad despite John Woo directing. Hows the quality on these? Im thinking about picking them up as a blind buy?

The first season of M.I. 5 had 6 episodes and the second season had 10 episodes. It appears region 1 will get the original
full hour versions and not the edited AandE episodes of 42 minites. Cant wait.
Best

RyoHazuki7: Are you trying to be funny?

On topic:

This show (about a British CIA-like group) is great and needs an unedited US release.

Technically MI5 would be more like the FBI and/or the new DHS, but neither of those have as much authority/power as MI5 does actually.

Overall I thought it was a decent show (picked up the R2 disks) although I dislike the way the first season ended, esp reading a little bit ahead to the first couple of eps of the 2nd season.

Great news if true. Where'd you hear this? And do you know if the episodes will be widescreen?

Can anyone verify a widescreen DVD release for R1 MI5?

Yes.
Here's a pretty good review (minus the common error of saying it aired on BBCA )

Still looking for a comparison between the US and the UK releases: quality and extra-wise.
