Linklater seems to be very busy at the moment though.. he's got The School of Rock coming out soon, he's currently filming the sequel for Before Sunrise here in Europe and i read something about another film that he'll start working on in the spring.. doesn't leave much time to revisit old films. Before Sunrise deserves a special edition as well, in my opinion.

i'll keep my fingers crossed though, since it really deserves a re-release.

Before Sunrise sequel? This movie ended perfect and there was no need for anything more. It was cool that he sorta revisted the characters in Waking Life, but this is suckke. Linklater was one of my favorite directors, I was blown away by Slacker, and he continued to be great with each movie, but now I think he is loosing it.

I will sell my blood for a SE of Dazed and Confused.

I waited for a SE ever sicnce I got into dvds, eventually broke down and just bought the current release. I'll definitely buy it again if they decided to do a SE.

It was on one of the inserts I got in 1 of the 3 recent Hughes releases. It had a High School Reunion banner across the top. No mention of SE, probably just a repackaging with a price drop.

i just ordered it from play.com - £8.49 delivered. that's $13.50 US.. not bad and i get anamorphic, 5.1 and subtitles in my own language.. i tend not to buy R2 despite living here but since there doesn't seem to be a R1 SE coming out anytime soon, that's not bad at all.. in my currency it's an even better price than $13.50 too.. more like $10-11.. worth it until an SE (if ever).

Sadly there is a lot of bad blood between Linklater and Universal Pictures regarding this picture. Although I'd love to see a SE, I don't think we'll see one any time soon.

What? None of the ones I got came with any kind of an insert. Did you get the box set?

I would kill for a special edition of this movie. Well, maybe not kill. But I would definitely complain a lot.

Yes, this insert was in my copy of The Breakfast Club. There was a row of DVD's at the bottom with the "Highschool Reunion" banner on the top of the cover art. If they're going to follow the rest of the High School Reunion setup with these upcoming DVD's, no special features will be added on Dazed & Confused.

dazed is one of my all-time favorite movies. there was a big party for the 10th anniversary in austin last summer, done as a benefit to raise money for the austin film society. anyways, many of the stars showed up (from matthew mcconaughey and parker posey to "stoner in the backseat" and "the girl who swallows"). rick linklater did a q&a session after they showed the movie, where he was repeatedly pinged about a special edition dvd. the short answer was that he's more than aware of the interest from fans and they're trying to schedule the major players to come in to track commentaries. so, we will see one, eventually, i think. god, i hope.

i look to the autographed picture of coach conrad i have hanging up in my cubicle for inspiration on an almost-daily basis. "son, you need to get your priorities straight and sign your committment to your team. and watch out with the other crowd you're running with...don't think i haven't noticed!"
