How do you sort your DVDs on your shelves?

My hand-built media racks (CDs, DVDs and VHS) are almost complete. So, I'm contemplating how to organize my collection. Purely alphabetical just won't work, and autobiographical would bring up too many painful memories (LOTR:FOTR and Memphis Belle)

So, here's what I'm planning on doing. All TV box sets are separate. Any non-box sets that go with the box sets are located with the box sets (Babylon 5 The Gathering/In The Beginning will be next to the season box sets). TV box sets will be broken into sub-genres (British Comedy, British Non-Comedy, American Comedy, American Drama, American Sci-Fi, Documentaries).

Then within the movie DVDs, most will be in purely alphabetical order, unless series of movies dictate otherwise (007, Evil Dead, Monty Python) Then, if I have 7 separate movies by a director (or less if I have all by a director), then that director will be sorted separately, with movies in chronological order. Kevin Smith and Billy Wilder are currently the two directors sorted in this method, with Spielberg very close.

Long winded and introspective? Sure, but I'm bored at work and need something to keep me awake until the uber-ice tea kicks in.

Alphabetical, with TV shows, MGM Midnite Movies and Fox Studio Classics separate.

Anime in alphabetical order, then live action japanese dvds in alphabetical order, then tv shows in alphabetical order, then everything else in alphabetical order.

I am tempted to arrange them by spine colar and have a rainbow effect like I once did with my cds.

I can't believe that this is such a hot topic that two separate threads were started on it today. Closing triplicate.
