Concur. Thanks, celluloidwisdom, for posting the Universal hotline number here. And big thanks to dvdtalk for hosting this forum - without it, I would never have known the extent of the problem and how to get a replacement disk 1.

Man, this sucks... I just called for my mailer... At least the turnaround time won't be six months like BTTF (knock on wood).

Thank you celluloidwisdom!!

They never contacted me back, when I e-mailed them. I hate to wait so long, but at least I'll get a DVD that works. My DVD player is nice, as well as very new. I just can't see how it would be the fault of the DVD player.

Hmm. Did I completely miss it, or was there absolutely no outrage like this when the Valley Girl SE had the exact same problem? Both the fullscreen and widescreen sides were flagged wrong, but I didn't notice any discussion about it here... I have nothing against biases, and MoL is much more important to me than Valley Girl, but it's just weird that there wasn't a peep about the same problem on it.

I seem to be on a pulldown flag issues roll here. Rented the old Dangerous Liaisons DVD recently, and popped in the pan&scan side just to compare the framing, and sure enough, flagging issues. Luckily the widescreen side is OK.

BTW, I wonder what newfangled DVD technology Universal was talking about using on MoL that messes up the interlacing that badly...

I hope they will have some method of distinguishing the new pressing for those of us that haven't bought the thing.

Of course those who might want to rent this will probably be stuck with the old version unless Blockbuster, etc goes "Back to the Future" to deal with Universal's customer service.

Dvdsky:

I never noticed the problem on the Valley Girl DVD, though I watched on the same player and in the same default video mode that troubled MOL. Weird.

Didn't know about Valley Girl, because I didn't buy it. If its messed up though it should be fixed as well.

I read this somewhere else: "The US number refers Canadian customers to the following number: 1-866-532-2202."

Thanks Mr Gore, sorry for the poor post I am not feeling all the great and was wanting to watch this movie today and it just looked god offal to me on my new set.

Is this with every dvd has anyone tried taking there dvds back to the store for a replacement dvd. and if so did that new dvd work?

Just asking, before I make a bit deal about this. the version I got has interlaced lines all over the place in parts of the movie. its so clear that it's hard to watch the movie at all.

Did anyone get their postage paid envelope yet? I called something like three weeks ago and haven't gotten a thing in the mail yet. Just wondering if I should keep waiting or give them another call in case they got my info wrong.

Nope, not received anything yet. I like to think that they're waiting 'til they have the discs ready, so that when you get the mailer, it'll be a quick exchange.

Of course, I never bought BTTF, so I have no idea how these disc swaps have played out in the past.

Just got my mailer which is just a paper thin envelope, at least the note inside doesn't tell me once again how it is entirely my fault for owning such a horrible DVD player or insult my mother or clothing or anything...

Just got my 'replacement' DVD. The problem is still there, though less obvious.

This is on a Denon DVD-2900 set to Mode 1, progressive output, on a Sony 53" RPTV using anamorphic squeeze.
