No inserts.
Snappers. Long menu's. FBI warning. Forced trailers. Full screen only releases of horror films, like Prom Night 2 / 3 / and Four. Which means, if I want to the film, I have to accept full screen versions. Releasing SPECIAL EDITIONS' two months after the first edition - without letting the public know way ahead of time. |
Two I haven't seen mentioned yet are:
When you insert a DVD to watch on your computer and instead of the movie starting with your default DVD player program, it starts up the install for 'PC friendly' and such. I've already found the program I like, I don't want to install another one. DVDs where the 'Time' feature doesn't work. Sometimes I like to be able to press the 'time/text' button on my remote to see how much of the movie and/or extra features I've left to watch. I HATE starting a "featurette" extra and not knowing if it's 5 mins or 120 mins long- especially since I usually finish a movie around midnight. I need to know if I'm going to watch an extra, if I'm only going to up another 15 mins, or up past 2am. |
Mfgrs that make awesome single-disc DVD players, but won't use the same great decoders, DACs and whatnot in a changer.

DVD that cut out the last minutes or to charge for the whole disc over again in a directors cut BS
|
1. The damned security stickers all over the place!
2. double dip, triple dip, quadruple dip! 3. buying the full screen version by accident!!!! 4. package says "anamorphic" but when you get it home *buzzzzt* --> non-anamorphic. :( 5. Price drop to $9.99 or $5.88 when you just bought the movie 2 weeks ago at $19.99! :( --mike |

Fancy-shmancy animated menu's that play the same annoying animations whenever you select a munu item.
Muisc played over the main menu that fades out at the most jarring point in the song and repeats. Just play the whole damn clip would ya? I promise I won't burn it to CD and put it up on Kazaa. |
One of mine are those TV show sets that have no "play all" feature. Sometimes I just want to lay back and watch all the episodes in succession without having to get up or use the remote. Sometimes I like watching my DVDs on my computer while lying in bed, so that gets annoying having to get up every half hour or so.
I was so glad the third season of "The Simpsons" set has that feature. |
main pet peeve is snapper cases, but it's not much an issue since i just don't buy them. as a side, a pet peeve is any dvd that doesn't come in a amaray case.
the main pet peeve i have to deal with is with that; "hey moron! are you sure you have dts?" god i hate that. why can't they just put the disclaimer (if one is needed anyway) on the audio setup menu. that selecting dts and then having to again asure the dvd that you have it drives me up the wall. all though i see this less and less, not sure if the studios are giving us credit or i'm just buying the right movies with dts. |

Well, I can't answer for Venom, but I have the same pet peeve and yes, it applies to all cases not amaray.
All the cardboard digipacks and special boxes don't hold up as well, and are not convenient for storage - especially tins. I like the disc to be as easy to access when I want to see the movie. I want to walk up to my player with the case in one hand and load the disc with the other. With all these digipacks you cannot easily open the case and remove the disc without a third hand or a table or something to hold the packaging. I understand that they are popular and sell well. |
The forced commercials and trailers in Disney DVDs

Originally posted by Max Bottomtime Seeing all of Rob Schneider's films on DVD except the only one I want, Up Periscope. Just kidding, I've been wanting Down Periscope for a while. Yes, it's cheesy and lame, that's why it's funny. And for my other pet peeves... DVD covers that use lame cover art instead of the far superior theatrical poster art (Lucas and Spielburg, I'm looking at you!) Un-skippable trailers and advertising (Disney!) Lack of extras on high-priced discs (the only reason I haven't bought Better Off Dead yet) Expensive box sets with easily damaged cardboard cases (Babylon 5 season sets) Snappers, Snappers, Snappers! The Billy Wilder movies that haven't seen DVD releases yet (Ace in the Hole and The Spirit of St Louis) The lack of The Muppet Show season box sets The lack of decently made affordable DVD storage systems (giving up and building my own) |
I don't have many, but here are mine:
When you cannot skip the FBI Warning and ads that come before the movie now. When the security tags and security seal is near impossible to remove. When the above mentioned security procedures result in damaging the package. The disturbing number of films being released in fullscreen format. |
Easily my biggest pet peeve is when you pop in a disc and start watching the movie and you don't realize until 5-10 minutes into the film that it defaulted to Dolby 2.0 instead of Dolby5.1!!!! I hate that! Whats even worse is when they don't allow you to change it via the Audio button, and you have go to into the menu to change it to 5.1!!! RRRRRR!
Other than that, the only thing that really bugs me is when they removed the original subtitles (like for location tags) and replace them with player-generated crap. Whats the point? |
DVD's that don't have deleted scenes that you seen elsewhere on stations like TBS or TNT, etc.
Fast Times At Ridgemont High Blazzing Saddles National Lampoon's Loaded Weapon 1 and recently off Starz!/Encore: Bubble Boy |
Pet Peeves of mine:
I am deaf and I am upset/disappointed that on every DVD movies of special features like deleted scences that have NO closed caption or english subtitles! GRR! However, the only DVD I see on special features that has Closed Caption or english subtitles are Steven Spegiburg (Spelling)? films. Another one of mine is when I buy the orignal, then later I find out there is a special edition coming out! It's annoying! |

My only real pet peave is when companies bow to the masses and refuse to put a movie out in it's OAR.

snappers
re-release when not needed dts wasted on stupid movies dts not being on a lot of good movies bad dvds of good movies(yeah, i'm talkin about chicago) movies going OOP too soon after release date universals misframed tranfers, audio problems, and canceling dvds that about covers it all |
My biggest pet peeve has to be the bilingual packaging that we have on certain studio's discs that we have up here in Canada.
Thanks, but I really don't need to know the French title of The Lord Of The Rings... -rolleyes- |
