"True Lies" Is Going For $20+ On Ebay
Well, it appears that True Lies is now discontinued/OOP so everyone (on ebay) is going to be in a frenzy to get this disc. So far, highest price I have seen it go for is $40.00 for a sealed copy. This is truly insane for a DVD that can be easily found online for 10 bucks..or even at Columbia House for less.
Wasn't there talk of a new edition 16:9 edition of True Lies to be released sooner or later?
And finally, hasn't this been out long enough so that everyone and their mother could have a copy of this? I don't see how anyone could pay over $10 for this, regardless of it being OOP or not. I like the movie, but not enough to pay that.
Opinions?

I remember there being talk of a 5-star edition in the works from Fox, but work on it was postponed following September 11th last I heard. I imagine work on it has resumed and a release is on the horizon given the original disc is now OOP.
But I agree, it's pretty silly to buy a barebones DVD for more than the SRP just because it's OOP. I mean, you'd think the average consumer would realize that the supposed rarity of a DVD would mean that a new one is coming out. But at least the people who paid too much for the Scarface DVD will hopefully realize why it was put out of print when the new version comes out.

The True Lies SE (or Five Star, or whatever) has been in the pipe forever. I belive all the extras and stuff are made too... I don't know what's keeping them. Maybe I should sell my copy.

Actually, I expected someone to mention that. Overstock.com has it listed as well for Tuesday but, mentions stocks is limited. Last I checked, I could only add as many as 4 to the order. I didn't buy them though. It is also listed as discontinued here:

I may be mistaken, but what I heard was that the sequel, that was planned before 9-11, was postponed or even cancelled due to 9-11.
The 5-Star True Lies DVD is probably still in the works. And remember that this was a rumored title, that was never officially announced. We may never see it actually released.
P.S. I don't know exactly how to do a quote, so I just copied the text into my reply.

Fox has discontinued their "Five Star Collection" line. If a True Lies SE is still in development, it won't come out under that title.
As far as I've heard, plans for a True Lies 2 are indefinitely postponed. With Arnold running for governor of California, he's not going to have much time to make movies. And even if he did, right now a movie about Middle Eastern terrorists would not be the most politically expedient thing he could do.

From the Dec. 2002 HTF chat with Fox Rep Peter Staddon:
<peterstaddon> True Lies will not be until late 2003 or possibly 2004. a lot depends on Lightstorms involvement. I think it will be a great disc when it , eventually, makes it out.
