Any Info on Release of "Looking for Mr. Goodbar"?
"Looking for Mr. Goodbar," one of the most provocative films of the 1970s, is still not available on DVD. I remember reading about a possible 2004 release, but that was quite a while ago, and have not heard any followup on this. Has anyone heard if the studio (not sure which has rights) is still planning on releasing this title in 2004?
What a cast. Diane Keaton (who would have been nominated for Best Actress for this role, except for the fact that she won the Best Actress Oscar that same year for "Annie Hall"), an incredibly young Richard Gere doing pushups in nothing but a jockstrap, a young and buff Tom Berenger, and a great supporting (Oscar-nominated) performance by Tuesday Weld. Also stars Richard Kiley.
Though critically savaged upon release, I have always felt this film really captured a certain essence of the sexual revolution of the late 60s and most of the 70s. It sets a very dark, intense mood and never lets up. The disturbing ending will haunt you (if the film were made today, it would never end this way). There's also a pretty great song selection on the soundtrack, loaded with atmospheric 70s disco classics ("Backstabbers" by the O'Jays, "Don't Leave Me This Way" by Thelma Houston, "Lowdown" by Boz Scaggs, etc.).
Anyone have info on this title?
