Names and Faces never match up on DVD Cases...bother anyone else?

Ok, this is merely a thread for me to rant on a stupid little issue with almost every dvd I see. If you look at the front cover of DVDs, they usually have an actor or 2 on them. Now, if you look at the top where the stars' names are listed, you'll almost always find them above the incorrect head/body. It's kinda hard to explain, so I shall post a few examples (And these are just completely random movies I just now found with this problem...goes to show ya how many dvd's do this):

Cameron and Drew's names are flip flopped.

The 2 stars names flipped

The 2 stars names flipped...again

And this is my favorite....all 3 are messed up...very obvious.

So, anyone else ever notice this and think it looks stupid? I men, on most of these covers the names arent even alphabetical or anything. I see no reason to just put the names over the proper person.

What? Vin Diesel is the one WITHOUT hair??

Yeah, I've noticed this same phenomenon in the movie ads when they're still in the theaters. I always assumed it had to do with who gets top billing vs. who appears first, as battled out by agents and contracts. Gotta agree with ya that it makes for a confusing ad or cover, and does seem kinda stupid, but, that's Hollywood!

Contractual billing and ad departments rarely work together...

funny how everyone bitches about this topic yet there is never a shortage of people to come up with a "clever" one-liner mocking it. let it die, already.

Actually the other punch line of the joke is a reference to how much folks hate Big head-ism. either way, it's just a joke, don't let it get to you. Just another way to pointout how it's those little things that get the dvdtalk community.

Glad to see I'm not alone in noticing this....thought I may be a little crazy Off topic a bit, the whole insert thing never bothered me. I could care less if I have 1 or not...all they usually do is show the chapters...I never saw the big deal.

It never bothers me, mainly cuz I know who which actor is and having their name above them isn't even necessary for me. Which brings me to the kind of DVD cover I like:

No need to put Brad Pitt's name on it, eventhough he's a huge star. Excellent. (Of course, The Mexican even has his name, along with Julia Roberts, on the spine, which is really quite lame.)

It bugs me a bit (not enough to effect my purchasing of course). I think I understand why it's done, but it looks careless and sloppy to me.

I wasn't going to reply to this pointless subject, but I feel the need to defend Jack. His light sarcasm actually makes a pretty good point. I just can't stand when people make a big deal of this crap. Sure, I might have noticed this mismatched name "phenomenon", but I probably thought about it for two seconds and then went on with my life. The same goes for the insert threads. I know I seem like a jerk, but these banal topics drive me up the wall.

Cue obligitory "if you don't like it, don't read it blah blah blah"

this is not a worthy rant to me...but whats important is it is to you. thats cool. you have the right to bitch and say anything you want. matching up faces to names is un-essential, sorry.

It never bothers me. It has to do with "Top Billing." Actor's have it put into their contracts that they MUST have top billing on all promotional material. (It's a big deal to them) This is all done way before any posters or other artwork for the film is even thought of.

It's silly, but I don't care about it - there are way more annoying things in the world of DVD re-releases.

It doesn't bother me to the point I would start a thread over it, but yeah, I do notice this tendancy. Sometimes I will get an indy movie, and want to know who plays whom in it, and it won't be a well known person in the movie, and you try to figure it out from the cover box, but only to end in futility. Then you realize that's what the credits are for at the end of the movie, and you get on with life.

But I do see your point...names should match the faces on the cover. I mean, it does make sense, but I guess that's why they don't do it....it makes too much sense.

It doesn't bother me at all. I never match the poster with name anyways. Use IMDB to check for faces.

This is something I've noticed too on occasion. I remember looking at the cover for Gangs of New York when I was putting the DVD in the player and thinking to myself, "Boy, Cameron Diaz sure has a lot of hair on her chin in that picture."
