Quality of original Scarface?

Is the picture quality of the original Scarface any good? Has the new one coming out been restored?

Not very good.

I got rid of my copy a couple of months ago.

Well, if you are referring to the quality of the original Scarface as in the 1932 version, I can't answer that question since it isn't out yet.

The original DVD release of the 1983 movie was horrible. Apparently the picture quality was terrible and it was also non-anamorphic (although that doesn't say anything about the transfer quality itself). For such a bad DVD, the price was way too high. I swear I remember Best Buy selling it for $35.99. Back then though, the Universal Collector's Edition DVDs were rather pricey. I don't know whether it was a bad compression job, or if the source elements used were in terrible shape. I can't imagine the new release coming 9/30 could be any worse, but maybe it might be just as bad. Since Universal doesn't send out screener copies for DVD reviews (last I heard), I imagine no one will know about its quality until the release date or maybe a few days before.

I ordered the box set, I'm hoping Universal would insure the 1932 Scarface will look good. The original DVD of the 1983 version was probably one of the worst looking DVDs I have ever owned. I'm sure that one will look better.

Thanks, to everyone for your answers. I found it on half.com for 8.99 but now I know that you can't get something for nothing. So I guess I have no choice but to wait til Sept 30th.

Unless you are happy to buy a Bootleg then get the one out now. Simply put the quality is equel to VHS quality.. if that.

You're one of the few people I've seen on this forum that seems intent on buying the bare bones version of each dvd you want.

DAMMIT!!! I owe you all $100* now.

This is one of the first times I've seen him respond to one of his own threads. Or she to one of her... Uh. Anyway...

I might rent this flick when it's released. Never seen it. Never really had an interest in it. But if 4 out of 5 rappers can recommend it that vehemently, might as well see what all the fuss is about. Fo' shizzle, my nizzle.
