The doc is pretty good and is one of the few great documentaries concerning WW2 so go for the DD edition.

I'm pretty sure of all the WWII documentaries out there, an HBO behind the scenes fluff piece wouldn't rank too high among the all time greats.

That's not to see that the DTS tracks don't have some pretty nice mixes a lot of the time! in the end, I normally will pick up the dolby version if an extra feature is missing, or it is cheaper.

For the regular J6P, there's no difference between the DD5.1 and DTS soundtrack, so get which ever's cheaper. But if you got a good ear, there's very noticible different in quality between the two.

I said someone once told me actually it was on this forum, and we all kind of laughed at it back then. Sorry, failed attempt at humor.
So.... if you don't have good ears, your a Joe Six Pack? please.
All I'm saying is I've heard good DTS tracks and good DD tracks. I don't think either are good because they're DD or DTS, but instead are good because of their sound mix. You can have crap DTS soundtracks and crap DD soundtracks too.

Joe Six Pack will not being able to tell the difference, just as most can't tell the difference from a newly improved video transfer of a re-release. The DD track on SPR still sounds very good! The DTS track is one of the best, if not, best out there.

I got the DD version a couple years back, not having the equipment to take advantage of DTS. Well, I've got the hookup right now, but I'll probably just stick with the current version. It's good enough for me - but I'm not a huge audiophile either.

If you think you'll upgrade to surround sound in the next couple years I'd say go with DTS. The primary reason though is that if you later discover the superiority of Band of Brothers and its DTS track you'll never want to listen to SPR in anything less.
