Darrell Hammond - second greatest to Will Ferrell

I can't wait for the Will Ferrell Best-of DVD, as he was the funniest guy on the show (dare I say my all-time favorite?) - but my second favorite guy, with his dead-pan wit, was/is Darrell Hammond. From his scheming Bill Clinton to his side-kick Al Gore, he really made an impression with me.

I suppose they won't gather up a Best-of collection for Hammond until he's left the show. Hey, Hammond! Leave the show, already!! Nobody's watching now that Will's gone, ya know!

I totally agree with you there. He is so underrated, and I loved his Bill Clinton so much--probably even moreso than Phil Hartman's. Hopefully he will begin to get the recognition he deserves.

He's the second best of that time, but Will is my favorite along with Chris Farley. Hammond can't beat Farley.

Hammond's humor is subtle --
Farley is the furthest thing from subtle, but he's good.

Bah.

I'll take Dana Carvey, Jon Lovitz, and the great Phil Hartman any days over those schmoes.

(Of course, no one can hold a candle to the inimitable comic stylings of Tim Kazurinsky, Brad Hall, Mary Gross, Gail Mathius, and Gary Kroeger!)

Crossfire (the political talkshow takeoff) is comedy gold, though usually that's due to the guests.

"C'mon, Harry Belafonte, give us a parting shot of crazy before we leave."
"The poodle is the black man of the dog world."

I would have to say that Hammond is the only player on SNL worth watching these days. The big stink over Jimmy Fallon puzzles me since the man can't keep a straight face to save his life. I suppose it's another case where he's big just because the ladies like him.

That's true, and its interesting to note that the whole basis behind SNL when it was started in 1975 was to maintain a straight face at all times. It was a criteria of sorts, and Fallon should be disciplined!
