Thanks for the post - I had no idea this was out there. I really wish they had done this in R1 - it looks awesome.

I don't know for sure, but I would guess it's because whenever Sioux is spoken, the automatic (or burned-in, whichever they are) subtitles are in Japanese.

Picked mine up over the weekend and overall a nice set.
Don't have time right now to run through the whole movie (lot's of business tgrips coming up) but I went through a bit and can give a short review.
The video and audio are stunning. This is my first copy of Dances on DVD so I can't compare it to previous releases but it looks good.
Subtitles are not burned in for either language (English/Japanese) if you have the subtitles on to either Japanese or English, they will come up when Sioux is being spoken. I just hit the subtitle button on my remote and switched over when Sioux came up.
Extras: lots. Didn't have time to even think about looking at them but will keep you occupied for awhile.
Case: Let's just say this is the most plasticy smelling "leather" case I've ever encountered. If this is real leather, then my conceptions of how leather should look or feel have been wrong since birth. "Dances with Wolves" is stamped on the front and side. There is a metal snap to keep the case closed and inside there's a booklet (not much but what's there is in Japanese) and a separate paper case designed to hold the two DVD cases.
Overall: Nice presentation of the movie, but kind of got my hopes up too much with the "leather " case. Kind of reminded me of all the years I've spent here in Japan;: Nice looking on the outside but if you take a closer look, it's a bit pricey and not exactly what you were expecting and could have been just a bit more.
