Audio on "Honeymoon Killers".

I just rented this disc to see if i liked enough to buy. It was a great disc but the audio seemed off. It sounded like the mixed the sound in an empty airplane hanger. That is the only way i know i can explain it. I read DVD Savant's review for it and he gave the audio three or four stars, which just made me wonder.

I watched the film recently on IFC & the audio was just as bad--I think the problem was with the original audio recording (which sounds slightly better than a home movie from the same era) and not with Criterion's transfer.

According to the booklet in the DVD, the audio was remastered. I found it to sound bad, had to watch it with subtitles to understand certain parts. Being that this is a very low budget movie and was in bad shape, Criterion did the best that they could with the source material. Other that that, I highly recommend both the movie and DVD.

That is what i figured. Criterion usually does the best they can with what they are given. It reminded me of some of the audio on John Waters old films(at least on vhs), that and Martha looked a helluva lot like Divine. I was going to watch it with subs too but my player is stubborn when it comes to turning them on without going back to the menu.
