Is this movie ever coming out in the US? I really need it.

Calm down, you sound like a junkie. I suggest DVDA or some 10 step program. Does Betty Ford Clinic do dvd addictions yet.

The R1 DVD of City of God won't be released until 2004, because miramax is planning on re-releasing it to theaters in December 2003 to try to get some oscar nominations (it was eligible for the foreign film oscar last year, but not for the regular ones since it did not have any regular showings in 2002).

No cuts.

They are butchering horribly "Kung Fu Soccer" when they release it as "Shaolin Soccer" here soon though. (Cutting it from 102 minutes to 80 minutes).

It will - but I can't believe Miramax's bull******. I saw this movie over a year ago and now I have to wait another year for it on dvd just because of their incompetent marketing (same thing w/ Confessions of a Dangerous Mind).

No its the other way around I thought, its shaolin soccer everywhere else but kung fu soccer here, and doesn't shaolin mean kung fu?

Another reason to go Region-Free! I will be picking the R2 up, because I won't be able to wait for the R1. Amazing flick!

They were going to change it to Kung Fu Soccer for the states, but now they aren't.

The original title is Shaolin Soccer and it'll hit our states theaters as such.

Man,

If this news of a re-release to qualify for Oscars is true, Dammit! I love this film and want it in my hands to watch over and over again.

Maybe it's time to invest in a all-region player......

Just saw this at Dark Horizons:

City of God: Extended Edition: Revista de Cinema reports that Director Fernando Meirelles is preparing a special version of his acclaimed "City of God" to be broadcast as a four-part mini-series on Brazilian television in 2004. The mini-series will incorporate scenes not used for the theatrical release.

If the above is true, I'm asking any readers in Brazil to try and confirm this. Anything would be nice.

Thanks for the link. I'm not going to wait until the Director's Cut R1 is released, if ever. This is one of the most amazing movies I saw last year. Can't wait to see it again. This is one movie that can justify double-dipping.

The link doesn't seem to work anymore. Here's one that seems to work. Also, they changed the cover. If you search for it in DVD Aficionado, you'll see the old cover with the couple on the beach. I like this one better though.
