You got a source for that info mate? Intrigued to read more, even if it does mean me trading on the copy of Versus I just bought -smile-

i found this movie enjoyable, but reminiscent of many different types of movies that came before it. i noticed it borrowed heavily from the wacky style and pacing of peter jackson's "bad taste".

So, Versus 2-disc owners - does the 2nd disc have enough on it to warrant paying another 6 bucks?

It really depends on how much you like the movie. The docs aren't that great although there is a lot of behind the scenes stuff. One of the docs is only in Japanese though. I really dig the movie, so far me the big selling point(well, this & I got the set for $20) of getting the 2-disc set was on the second disc there is a short film called "Nervous" which tells the side story of the 2 bumbling cops. That alone makes the extra disc worth it to me. Also, I don't know off hand if the 1 disc has both commentaries, but I found both commentaries very enjoyable & informative, even though one of them was subbed which is a little annoying.

Not sure how it can be made less "annoying". It's a foreign movie after all and the cast commentary is very lively. Very much in the spirit of cast commentary track from Chasing Amy, Dogma, Evil Dead, etc. Rowdy and sometimes insightful. I found it much better than the other commentary track.

I guess to improve it, Media Blaster can include an expert commentary, ala HKL's Bey Logan.

Versus is a great movie. Stylish, cool, and has a great sense of humor. I love the music soundtrack. It fits the film so well. The dubbed English audio is bad, why even bother. I can't imagine watching it in anything but the original language with subs.

 for the soundtrack. It had quite a bit of that Chungking Express, Fallen Angels feel to it.

Also, English dub?

VERSUS 1.5 on DVD:
In Brussels on March 28th, Legend Films did an interview with Kitamura for the upcoming Tinbox DVD release of Versus. The director mentioned a bit of information about VERSUS 1.5 and VERSUS 2.

The recreation of the new version of VERSUS will be a lot more expensive than the whole budget of the original version. It includes a new beginning, a new ending, a new showdown and a lot more zombie gunfight scenes - some of the talky parts will be gone and it will feature a new soundtrack as well. Reshoots are planned for this summer.

The current version of VERSUS is indeed the way the director intended it to be, 1.5 is merely an alternate cut of the film because he loves playing around with that stuff. Versus 1.5 is of course not the official name of the new version. Kitamura, in the interview, referred to it as 'alternate cut'.

VERSUS 2 is planned for 2004, depending on when he's going to do the first project for Miramax. He just finished working on AZUMI a few weeks ago (started in Japan last week), and before 1.5 he still has to finish the video game project, which is Metal Gear Solid: Twin Snakes for Gamecube and, of course, the theatrical version of the SKY HIGH series.

DOWN TO HELL(the Versus Prequel) was officially released in Japan last November. No other single releases are planned - it's gonna be on the VERSUS Tincase Collector's Edition from Legend Films but they are not allowed to market it as a stand alone disc.

I must be getting old...maybe in my youth I would have found this movie amazing but instead I purchased this after hearing everyone's recommendations and was extremely dissappointed.

I love this genre, and yes I do compare new movies (in this genre) to what has come before...this movie is not even in the same league, IMHO.

When I saw the poster/art for this flick a while back my juices were flowin'...this is the type of movie I love...USUALLY...

Everyone talks about how stylish this movie is...not to knock anyone's opinion but I did not observe an ounce of style in this movie...I know it is low budget but the static atmosphere of the first 20-30 minutes is really, well boring.

I did like the reveal, and it did make up for sitting through this 2 hour, over-hyped flick...

(Please don't hurt me)

Of don't get me wrong, the commentary itself is amazing, you are right they are all very funny & I love how they make fun of the star, Tak, all the time. But it's still a little annoying to have to read a commentary & you have to admit, it's very hard to tell who is saying what. I understand it's a foreign film & there isn't much else you can do, but that doesn't mean it's not a little annoying.

As I may have mentioned elsewhere (or not) I enjoyed this flick a lot, but had a question.

I want to purchase it, but I'm wondering if I want to get the 2-disc. I think I do, but am wondering, are all the documentaries/extras etc. in english (subtitles or whatever)?

Thanks.
