6.1 DVD's?

What are some of the DVD's that have 6.1 sound? I just bought a new 6.1 Onkyo system and REALLY REALLY want to test it...Thanks!

Both of the Star Wars dvd's are 6.1, off the top of my head.

Not sure what you are expecting though.

If you mean DTS-ES 6.1, here's a link that shows what titles have DTS 5.1, 6.1 Discrete and 6.1 Matrix. Don't forget to look at the footers at the bottom of the page to find which are which.

If you're talking about Dolby Digital EX 5.1, I don't know where to find a list off the bat, but here's Dolby's site

Have fun!!!

This thread may help as well.

what if my Denon receiver shows that a movie is playing in 6.1. but the movie's cover says DD 5.1? Should I change my Denon receiver setting or will it sound better if I leave it even though it is not in true 6.1?

Plus that DTS online list seems incorrect at times. for example, They list knockaround guys is 6.1 but my cover shows 5.1 DTS. Also jurassic park 3 shows 6.1 but cover only 5.1? Minority report shows as DTS 6.1 matrix, but cover shows only 5.1 DTS ....what gives???

Babka, there are many DVDs that actually support 6.1 sound but are not listed as such on the box. Jurassic Park 3, Minority Report, Fight Club, Signs, and the Bone Collector are just a few I know of that are such titles. Most of these soundtracks are not flagged either, which means you will have to manually turn on EX/ES encoding on your receiver.

that list is a list of DTS dvds, and indicates which ones have 6.1, but I don't know how new or accurate it is.

One of the best releases of the year IMO. The new Dawn Of The Dead: Divimax Series in all of it's bloody glory, has a 6.1 DT-ES track. And I didn't see it listed on the link provided.

Thats interesting. But I have noticed that every dvd I played so far since getting my receiver shows 6.1 on the display of the receiver. Should I leave it like this. Or turn off the surround back speakers?

You mean Day of the Dead?

LOTR-FOTR EE has DD-EX and DTS-ES.

All that means is that the receiver is set in the mode for matrixing a center back channel if sounds of equal amplitude are sent to both rear speakers simultaneously. The receiver's front panel doesn't have anything to do with what is actually encoded on the disc.

It's like setting for ProLogic. You can activate ProLogic and still wind up listening to a mono soundtrack from one speaker if that's what's on the disc.

Should I leave it like this. Or turn off the surround back speakers?
That's up to you. The risk of leaving the 6.1 Matrix mode on is that if a movie is technically coded for 5.1 but has a sound mix that has mostly just mono surround activity, all of your rear soundstage may collapse to the center speaker rather than filling the back of the room from both other speakers.

I leave my receiver with 6.1 Matrix mode set on by default, and the above scenario only very rarely ever happens.
