28 Days Later... Wait or get now?

The DVD for 28 Days Later is available now in the UK.

Was wondering if I should get it now, or wait till the US release.

Anyone know the US release date?

Anyone know if the features will be comprable?

No official word on the US release, but most people feel it'll be pretty much identical to the UK version (audio commentary, deleted scenes). If you have a region-free player and don't mind spending a little more, get it now. Otherwise, wait and see.

I'm waiting for the US release. As long as it has the same features, I'd rather wait and save a few bucks.

I bought the R2 without seeing it in the theatre, the theatres around here are terrible. Great disc, if you are impatient!

i was waiting only because....
I understand the R2 had a story board extra of the alternate ending that is now showing in the theaters.

I wonder, since they finished the alternate ending and now show it at the end of the credits (so i've heard) will that finished scene be an extra on the R1 disc. Thats my main reason for waiting. I would like to have the finished version of that if its available.

Other than that, I*d pick up the zone 2 right now.

I'm gonna wait for R1. Can't really afford to import anything right now so I don't mind waiting a bit for the movie.

From what I've been told there are three endings. The original ending, the alternative ending, and the storyboarded ending (never shot). All three are on the UK edition as far as I know. I'm sure someone with the dvd can answer this tho...

I have it, and you are correct, there is the normal ending, a slightly different alternate ending, and the vastly different storyboard on the dvd.

But if what FaustBos says is right, they actually shot that different ending, which would make me kind of bummed out that I got the R2. Can anyone confirm what exactly this alternate ending in the theatres is?

I went ahead and bought it. The DVD's should be identical - so if you can't wait to watch it again, go ahead and get it . I got mine from XploitedCinema.com and I think it was only twenty some dollars. Not bad really.

I'm sorry, but why is everyone hyped over this movie. I was kind of let down. Lots of empty holes in the plot....just NOT scary at all. I think I may just pass on this DVD

normally...I'd jump on the import. this film just has lower priority over so many others I need right now. I'll wait for the R1. at least thats what I say now....

The alternate ending that's currently attached to the movie in the US is on the R2, but under the deleted scenes portion of the disc and not noted as a true "alternate" ending. The storyboard sequence that is also on there was never filmed.

I wholeheartedly recommend getting the R2 if you have that capability. I seriously doubt there will be anything additional on the R1 release, and knowing Fox lately, it'll be a double-sided one at that. Besides, the import comes in a neat red case.

I figured, it is a UK movie, I might as well get the UK disk.

I won't say that I was let down by this, but it is definitely NOT scary as so many people have implied.

I bought the UK dvd when it was released, and was happy with the movie, I just wish I wouldn't have bought into the hype about this movie being so scary. I liked it though, as long as I don't think of it as a scary movie.

If the alternate ending is on the R1 release than I might double dip...but I doubt it.

It is slightly different. The version currently attached to theatrical prints has removed the flashbacks that were crosscut into the scene in the DVD's supplements.

I forsee the possibility that an R1 edition might allow us the option of seamless branching both endings. That would be nice. I don't know that they are in fact planning this, but it's something I would like to see.

It's also possible that the R1 may get some additional crap feature like an HBO First Look featurette. Certainly not anything to be holding off for in that case ("Pure Rage" is trashy enough).

I really am fond of my Toshiba SD9200 but this is one of those times when I really wish it wasn't R1 only.

I haven't caught this at the theater and I would order the import without hesitation if it would play on my system.

The film isn't released here until October so I preordered it over at Amazon.co.uk a while back. Great disc! Don't know of anything the R1 could include that this disc doesn't already have. Great commentary BTW! Garland confusing his camera movements (track, tilt, etc.) and Boyle correcting him was pretty funny.

If both releases are going to be the same, then the NTSC version will definitely be preferable for US viewers. No PAL speed up.

The movie was shot on PAL video. It has no speedup, because the audio was recorded at the proper speed to sync with the 25fps camera rate.

SPOILER:

Is the US version going to have that "HELP" flag thing at the end?

If you are watching the PAL disc on an NTSC set then you are seeing PAL speed-up. This has nothing to do with whether or not the film was shot on PAL video. It's simply an unavoidable side effect of PAL-to-NTSC conversion. Every PAL DVD that you watch on your NTSC player has 4% speed-up. That's just how it works.

Oh, it's scary, just not in a traditional sense...

It's suppose to make you think that this could happen. Plus, it was a good movie to boot.

I'm thinking of picking up the Region 2 - PAL disc. Now, if I were to put a hack in my DVD player to make it region-free, would it play the DVD?

Or even on my new laptop which has a DVD-Rom?

Sorry, I'm a n00b at this...
