Superboy To DVD!!!
Hey All,
For those of you who (like me) were fans of the syndicated Superboy show (starrign John Haymes Newton and then Gerard Christopher as Superboy), here is some good news. . .
Apparently Gerard Christopher owns the rights to the show (he has a few VHS for sale at his site). Anyways, he has recently stated that he is prepping the series for DVD release, and that it will even include an interview with the first season Superboy, Newton. I would have NEVER thought this series would see the light of day on DVD. It was a childhood favorite of mine.
Anyways, the link is here.

And Stacy Haiduk as Lana Lang, 'nuff said! I actually taped all episodes (in slow speed) no one believed this show existed until I showed it to them! Suprised it didnt air on sci-fi channel or something after being cancelled.
Hope they release episdoes of SUPER FORCE next.

Great News!!!
I signed the petition to get this re-aired some time ago, but DVD is better!
This show was actually very good despite its limited budget and cheesy '80s effects. I'll be buying all seasons.

Cool.
Read that interview with the ex-Mr. Superboy. He said in the last episode he became Superman.
Confused. Elsewhere in the interview he says that Salkind didn't have the tv writes to Superman.
And looked at the episode guide for Rites of Passage and it does n't seem he became superman....
Any one know?

Odd, it ran for a while and I don't really remember it. I'll probably remember it once I see it.
Since the site is over its limit, how many episodes were there? Any possibility they'll release it all at once?

Eric,
He didn't say for sure in the interview. From the tone of the story though, it appears he does not own the rights to the first season. There was a different actor playing SB the first year (John Haymes Newton). Newton got into some legal troubles in Florida (failure to appear in court on some speeding tickets, I think). Anyways, the show that it did not look good for the wholesome Superboy image and he was canned. I actually thought he was quite good. Anyhow, Gerard Christopher took over the role of Superboy and eventualy was an executive producer of the shw, which helps explain how he now owns the rights. I have emailed him concerning the frst season. I seriously doubt he has the rights to it, but I would love to see ALL seasons released, not just Christopher's 3 years. But hey, at least he will be putting those out for sure.

The last episode ended with not him becoming SUPERMAN, but Lana finally figuring Clark to be Superboy, just like in the comic books. Of course the show was similar to SMALLSVILLE in that it implied SUPERBOY came to earth in the early 90's, and apperently became SUPERMAN in the 21st century, thus pretending the Chris Reeves films didnt exist
However, Salkinds are billed as producers on the episodes I taped.Show had great guest villian stars like Paul Marshall, Bill Mumy, Tristen Rogers and Michael Pollard as Mr myzliplix and Michael Callan as Mettalo, and Sherman Howard was a hoot as Luther, And Bill Zarro (aka Bizarro) was fun too.

I LOVED this show! I had such a crush on Super Boy. I would watch this and then "My Secrey Identity" (also crushing on Jerry O'Connell) that would be a great show to have on DVD as well.

Well... I hope they do make it to dvd. I am concerned about a couple of things though....
1) I don't think Gerard actually owns the "rights" to this show!
2) I found out a while ago that Gerard was selling tapes of the show on his website. I think he wants $30 or so per tape (4 half hour episodes per tape). I sent an email asking if he had all episodes available. I received an email back stating that he did. I think he wanted somewhere in the neighborhood of $1000.00 for the set. WOW !!! I couldn't believe it... for tapes !!!! I even found a forum (don't remember where) of people bashing the idea of selling these "bootlegs" for $1000.00.
I hope he does get the rights to all of these shows (if he hasn't already) and puts out a very nice set of dvd's. I would definitely buy them.. .but they would have to be MUCH MUCH cheaper than the tapes he's selling !! --RickWJ324

Salamander - ahh..thanks. Someone should tell Gerard. He doesn't appear to understand what happened.
Although did Superboy throw Lana off the scent by kissing her? The logic being Clark would never do that.

OK,
I was apparently mistaken. Gerard is NOT releasing these to DVD. Someone else is (the owner of the Superboy Homepage" website.)
Apparently these are not official releases as I stated in my original post.
It was an interview with Gerard Christopher but then the author of the site says HE (not Christopher) was going to go ahead with his DVD editions of the Superboy show. I guess this release is going to be a sort of "fan release" similar to the "Green Cut" of Superman II. For those who were not aware, the "Green Cut" was a fan cut of Superman II utilizing Donner footage that has aired around the workd in various places to try to recreate what S2 would have been had Donner not been fired.
Anyways, I certainly apologize for misleading anyone here. I obviously misunderstood what I read.
Thanks,
Zack

I once read that supposedly Gerard was offered the part of Clark/Supes in the "Lois & Clark" tv show. But, when the producers found out he played Superboy. They changed their minds.

Cool news.
. The stunning Stacy Haiduk
was my only reason for watching this show.
