Hey, JACK FROST (horror) is back in print!
Everyone's favorite, out-of-print mutant killer snowman movie is back in print. I just saw it on the shelves at Best Buy for $10. Evidently, it was re-released last week.
Good news for me, as I hadn't discovered this movie until the Simitar release had already gone OOP.
Now I just need to find a review that says what the quality is like. Distributor is a company I'd never heard of: Ardustry??

This is the one where Shannon Elizabeth gets raped to death (rather nasty if you think about it) by the snowman's carrot? I believe they used the same transfer as Simitar, so it isn't anamorphic.

I read someone's review of this yesterday... they claimed that all they did was crop off the top and bottom of the fullscreen print in order to make it look like widescreen.
Can anyone verify if this person was right, or not?

Well if the movie was shot open matte for 1.85 projection, that's exactly what you would do...slap on a matte. I find it hard to believe that the director of this low-budget opus was shooting in 'scope.
BUT is the DVD anamorphic or just 4x3 WS, that is the question...

So is the dvd 16.9 or not?
I am dieing to buy this, while I would like to save money & order it online for $5. I am impatient & want to own this now,now now!..as I have not seen it in years. But remember it being hilarious.
Also my brother made a huge snowman that is extremely tall & can peer through our kitchen window, pretty creepy..& he mentioned' its jack frost..the killer snowman!'..& then I was like "wow..oh yeah..I still need to get that on dvd!"

That cover art is for the old OOP version. That little blue logo to the right of the DVD logo is for Simitar... a company that has been out of business for a while now.

Even the new box say letterbox on it. I doubt it is anamorphic. No AC-3 however! Just a perk with the original.

Personally (and sadly), this Ardustry film has been overlooked by mostly everyone:
Comic icons Pat Morita (The Karate Kid) and Demond Wilson (Sanford and Son) star in this hilarious tale of bumbling prison guards, who on their first day let two dim-witted bank robbers escape during a jail transfer. All hell breaks loose as new guard Reggie Hammer, with the help of his partner and smuggler Morita, scramble to find the prisoners before the warden finds out. When Reggie discovers the fugitives are searching for $500,000 hidden in a decrepit 1979 Ford Pinto the race to re-capture the crooks in the ensuing 48 hours is on.
