"The Haunting" (1963) Is Nearly Here! Are You Buying?
1963's original "The Haunting" is due August 5th.
A great haunted-house flick. Highly recommended!
Who's got this one on the "To-Get" list?
It's hard to beat the "ghostly" feel to this atmospheric gem.
Pick it up when it surfaces .... in the night .... in the dark.

This will probably be locked, since there's already the "what are you buying this week" thread.
That said, hell yeah, I'm buying this. I preordered this as soon as it was possible to do so. It was one of my top five wanted titles (as was All That Jazz--I'm having to revise that list a lot lately).

Gonna preorder today. Thanks for the post! My old VHS is pretty bad (in quality).

Always happy to spread the word about such a good scare-fest.

I have been telling people all my life that this is without question the finest ghost story ever put on film. It so totally gets under your skin for what it doesn't show, rather than for what it does. The psychological element of horror has never been presented more effectively. Plus, the sound effects are perhaps the most unsettling ever recorded ("The Exorcist" is close, though). August is a huge month for DVD buying for me. Aug. 5 has been circled long ago for "The Haunting." Also on Aug. 5th, I plan on buying "Halloween" 25th Anniversary reissue, the reissue of "Casablance" and the original "The Thing." How's that for a single day street date lineup? Aug. 12 comes Peter Bogdanovich's wonder mid-70s "Paper Moon," a film I loved when I was a kid (saw it three times in the theatre). A week later, on Aug. 19th comes five more gems: "Chicago," "Cabaret" (reissue), "All That Jazz," "National Lampoon's Vacation" reissue and "Bride of Re-Animator." Finally, Aug. 26th has "Lord of the Rings: Two Towers" and "National Lampoon's Animal House" reissue. Whew! I will be broke by the time Labor Day rolls around.
Finally, I urge everyone to check out the 1963 "The Haunting." Turn out the lights, light a candle or two, turn up the A/C, and grab ahold of the hand of whoever's sitting next to you....just make sure it belongs to a human being!
