[QUOTE]Producer Enthusiastic about DVD Release!
7/19/2003
Robert B. Weide, Co-Execustive Producer (and Director) of Curb Your Enthusiasm, has posted this exciting news at his website:
In 1999, Larry David asked me to direct him in a one-hour comedy special which was eventually titled, Larry David: Curb Your Enthusiasm. Although we didn't know it at the time, this would lead to the HBO series called Curb Your Enthusiasm, which premiered in October of 2000.
...As of this writing (July, 2003), the original one-hour special and the show's first season will be released on home video and DVD, probably this winter, December or January. And yes, it will contain some bonus material and audio commentary.
Great news, eh? Be sure to thank "Kurt" of Indianapolis, IN for making sure we knew about this![QUOTE]

I hope it's not one of those deals where there is commentary for one or two episodes only. If done by LD, the commentary could theoreticaly be as funny as the show itself.

The special is pretty funny. There's a bit with Jason Alexander refusing to accept George's (of Seinfeld) behavior as scripted since "no one can believe there's anyone stupid enough will do that", at which point Larry David replied back "What do you mean? That happened to me".

The one-hour special turned later into the de-facto pilot. It was presented as an HBO stand up special with behind the scenes footage. There was some actually funny stand up bits by Larry at several clubs. Jeff and Cheryl were presented, very much as the characters are on the show. It was all done "reality TV" style with hand held cameras and such.
The outcome of the special plays a big part in what happens with Julia Lousie Dreyfus in season two.

This is great news. Just the other day I was wondering if this was going to be released on DVD. My only question is, will the original 1 hour special be included with the first season or sold seperately?

Curb Your Enthusiasm has only recently started to run on Showcase in Canada. Since I don't have cable I've only been able to catch a few episodes here and there at friend's houses. I'm so happy to know I'll be able to pick it up on DVD.
This is probebly the first time I don't care if there's any extra's or not. Commentaries, deleted scenes, whatever... I just want to see the rest of these shows. The pilot thing sounds interesting though.

This is awesome. I really don't care about a commentary though. I mean, doesn't LD provide a running commentary during the show anyway? Plus, the show seems so improvised. Ah, what a great piece of television. I still can't get that closing scene from the last season out of my head

If they have her recording a commentary then I imagine they probably did them for a bunch if not all the shows since cast commentaries aren't all that common.
