Apocalypse Now
I was checking out some DVDs online and I came across Apocalypse Now. I know that there were two releases for this movie on DVD,but which one is better, Apocalypse Now or Apocalypse Now Redux? Are the special features any good?

they are pretty much two different films. Redux was released in theaters with more footage and changes the film. some say for better, some say for worse. The other one is the original as you might have remembered it.
as for special features.. neither include "Hearts of darkness" so that's a killer for me. I say rent Redux before you buy it just so you know if you like it or not.

IMHO, if you're a fan of this movie, both cuts are essential. If you're not a fan, go with the original. (Plus, they've been showing Redux on cable a lot recently--in letterbox.)

I prefer the original cut, but if you are a fan of the film, you must at least check out Redux. I own both versions of the movie.
If only the original version looked as good as Redux; it has a great transfer. But, the original is still decent.

Put me in the I prefer the original cut camp, but Redux is worth having if you're a big fan.

I own both, but yeah, I'll pretty pissed if I have to buy another version of the film just to get Hearts of Darkness. Please, please let them release this by itself!!!

I prefer the theatrical cut as well, but I own Redux because of its superior video transfer. Whenever I watch it, I simply skip over the parts I don't like, and I get the best of both worlds.
I think Paramount should release a whole new AN set with HOD included, that way we can get commentary on the film and other features. But that's just me.

Relax. Where did I say that they should ONLY release HOD as part of a box set? I just mentioned a "dream set" I'd like to see.

The DVD of the original cut of the movie has footage of the destruction of Kurtz's compound with commentary by Francis Ford Coppola. While it isn't very long, it is interesting. Aside from the theatrical trailer, the Apocalypse Now Redux disc has no extras.
