best and worst "official" dvd intermission points?
where you have to change discs or flip it, what is the best spot in a specific dvd that did it right and one that did it wrong
best lotr fotr ee right when they get ready to go search for the ring (sorry if its wrong) worst tie gods and generals why did they have to end it right when an army starts to charge once upon a time in america cuts it right in the middle of a gun fight does warner want us to watch really long movies in one sitting because at least for a first time viewing, you want to know what happens but can't due to time constraints. |
Best
FOTR EE Lawrence of Arabia Ben-Hur Dances with Wolves The Ten Commandments Worst Gangs of New York |
Godfellas you had to flip... hated that! I don't like to flip anything! http://mysite.freeserve.com/bamse/images/2-picture6.gif
|
CLEOPATRA- the opening music for the second half of the film ends on disc one and the image itself appears on disc two. This makes for a rather 'sloppy' roadshow presentation.
|
"The Godfather Part II" utilizes a point in the movie that was designed for a theatrical intermission, although they ultimately didn't do an intermission from what I've heard. In any case, it works perfectly and is totally acceptable.

^You are correct, sir.

no question, Gods and Generals is one of the worst... it happens right at the end of a battle scene.. but its VERY abrupt, u flip the disc over thinking you are going to see the rest of the battle because the cut is soooo sudden. Interestingly, the sequel, Gettysburg, has one of the better timed intermissions I have seen.

I actually DON'T like the cut in Fellowship. While it's the best place to HAVE a cut, yes, I think it's much too abrupt. Merry almost doesn't have time to say "where are we going?"
|
I also have a major problem with the "fellowship" DVD cut. Even though this change would have made the second part of the film longer than the first: the "intermission" should have, IMO, occured just after Frodo lapses into unconsiousness from the Wraith attack/destruction of the Nazgul and part two should have begun when he awakes in Rivendell.

that is a better cut

Worst = GONY
Best = Lawrence of Arabia (intermission) |
I heard that the Gangs of New York theatrical intermission was in a different place. Where was it, because it couldn't be worse than the DVD break.
Best: LOTR:FOTR EE Lawrence of Arabia (love to see more theatrical style intermissions on DVD, with the placard and movie music) Gettysburg |
What was so bad about the GONY break? Seemed like a fine stopping point to me.
|
OLIVER - flip at intermission. Gives you chance to go get some popcorn.
|
The one in Once Upon a Time in America is terrible, and very sloppily handled.

Best:
Lawrence of Arbia - I agree with the comments, it was done the way it should. Worst: Goodfella's - I thought the disc was bad, way too abrupt. |

What about Once Upon A Time In America?
You pop the second DVD in..... play for a few minutes and BOOM... You're hit with an Intermission.... which you have to chapter advance through to continue the movie! |

I haven't watched GoodFellas in quite some time, but I remember it being in a really awkward place.
Another vote for Lawrence of Arabia being the best. |
