Worst - Nine Inch Nails "And All That Could Have Been." There's NO REASON that concert couldn't have fit on a single DVD. I have several concert DVDs, all much longer than that show, and they look and sound incredible... all on a single disc.

Best - Seven Samurai, even though you don't have to flip or change discs, there *is* an intermission. Intermissions rule. :hump:

I heard that the Gangs of New York theatrical intermission was in a different place. Where was it, because it couldn't be worse than the DVD break.
There wasn't one.
There certainly was an intermission in the theatrical presentation of GONY that I saw. I remember thinking that people might leave and not return because there seemed to be many who were either restless or sleepy throughout the first half. I don't remember where it was, but there was an intermission in theaters.

Well, there weren't any intermissions the times I saw the film. Did you see it in general release, or a pre-release show?

Worst:
Once Upon a Time in America - in the middle of a gun battle that begins on Disc 1 and ends on Disc 2.

chheeesh!

Best: Godfather Part II
Worst: Once Upon a Time in America
Most Unexplainable: Gangs of New York

Yes!!!!! I agree with what everyone said about Once Upon a Time in America but I also want to add that the liner notes were incorrect as to how many chapters were on Disc 1.. and when Disc 1 ended there was no message or anything just a loooong black screen and then some FBI warning and pop back out to the menu.... I thought my DVD player crapped out when Disc 1 ended because the liner said I should have like 5-6 more chapters to go!! I spent like 2 mins trying to figure out what happened...

Wow, I have never once seen an intermission at a theater, not during GONY or LOTR or anything. I would be mad if they stopped the movie for 10 mins or something like that for intermission, I have better things to do than sit around during the middle of a movie. As for DVD intermissions, whats the point? Thats what 'pause' is for :)

jekbrown 07-24-03 06:43 PM

with some movies it makes sense... i mean, gods and generals is over 4 hrs... I dont know about you, but around 3+ hrs by behind starts to hurt and at SOME point I have to pee. I'd rather have a short intermission than miss some of the movie relieving my bladder...

- I completely agree here. Why is this movie cut in the first place, it's just a hair over 2 1/2 hours!? They can fit the whole regular 3 hour cut of LOTR:FOTR onto one dvd, but not GONY! I thought the movie was great, but I'd never buy this version for this reason alone. I will have to wait until the double and triple dip versions come out(which Miramax already claimed they would do), to see if they do a better job with them before I buy this movie. This is just plain nasty. :(

2001:ASO has an intermission, but it comes right before one of the chapter titles ("Jupiter And Beyond The Infinite", IIRC), so it fits nicely.

Monty Python And The Holy Grail has the silliest intermission, about ten minutes before the end, but that's one of the many things that makes Grail so wonderful.

Yea, I thought something was wrong with the DVD, I was like WTF, finally I got the idea to turn it over and see if the other side worked, I was wondering if one side was like fullscreen and the other widescreen...hoping one side of the dvd was salvagable.

to my amazement, when i turned it over, it picked up where it left off.

I wish they would bring back theatrical intermissions. FOTR was a killer. If they did bring back intermissions they would probably be able to show longer cuts of the movie too. I was hoping Tarantino would have one in Kill Bill but instead he opted to cut the film and 2 and double the profits. Thanks Quint.

NobleRabbit 09-11-03 07:58 PM

I enjoy Barry Lyndon's cut.

I hate Once Upon a Time in America's cut.

BizRodian 09-11-03 09:29 PM

I like Intermissions in theaters... espically at a point where it makes sense.

Unfortunately, this will never happen. Theaters want to have as many showings of a movie a day as possible so they can sell more tickets. Longer movie + intermissions for each show = one or more fewer times per day the movie can be shown, and thus less revenue for the theater.

Worst-Gettysburg Extended VHS version....Cuts during the Battle of Little Round Top Just before or as Col Chamberlain tells the 20-th maine that they are going to charge down the hill

Best Gettysburg DVD. Cuts exactly the same time as the original VHS tapes did..Right after the battle of Little Round Top

Even better...
Titanic..where theres originally a vhs tape change all it is on the dvd is a 1/4 second layer change
