Folks, it's not like it was any news that they would re-release BHD, they said so even before the release of the first one. anyhow.. to answer your question.. the DVDs worth upgrading are the ones you want to upgrade. It's all your own choice because everyone has different taste in films.

Folks, most people don't surf this site 24 hours a day. It'd be nice if we had members who just got to the point and answered the question. Some DVDtalkers might have not wanted to wait the year later to get the DVD.

Fine, let me run down the list..
I don't care what you like or what you dislike, but you have to upgrade.. for that matter you first have to buy the original versions and then upgrade the following films:
Pulp Fiction
Black Hawk Down
Army of darkness
Evil Dead
Silence of the lambs
Oh, and when a film is re-released at a lower price, it is worth it to you to buy it.. even if you have the original.. So it has been spoken, as true today as when it was written.. amen.
the point is do your research on a release before you buy it. it doesn't take long to use the search feature and you really can't say a disc ISN'T worth getting the upgrade if you don't have the original not to mention that it should come down to the film. For some folks the extra's are worth it. for others it isn't. it all depends on what kind of person you are.

Recently I have upgraded:
Texas Chainsaw Massacre (R1 > R2, extra documentary/anamorphic)
Straw Dogs (twice, R1 > Criterion + R2, anamorphic, different new documentaries & commentaries, sold off the crap earlier Anchor Bay one)
Wicker Man (R1 > R2, has commentary)
The Hitcher (R1 > R2, commentary, anamorphic, documentary)
Manhunter (earlier grainy Director's Cut to be replaced with remastered version with new Mann commentary - kept original 2-disc case and removed the offending disc).
As per usual Anchor Bay remain the chief instigator of Upgrade mania.

DVD Talk Special Edition
All 3 of the ME. versions that Elite has released.
Night of the Living Dead
Re-Animator
I Spit on Your Grave
I knew about Black Hawk Down getting a much better release so i waited for that. I didn't know about the Criterion version of Traffic but i was hoping they would release a special edition of that as well so i waited for that too.
But both of the previous stated discs are well worth the upgrade if you are into extras.

That's one not worth upgrading to.

I'm joking! Just in case someone thinks I'm serious.

The original still stands as one of the worst dvd transfers ever.

I don't agree with Black Hawk Down. The new release just has more bonus material. The transfer is exactly the same. If you're upgrading your copy for tech reasons, such as better audio, wait for the Superbit, which will be DTS. The first release of BHD should have been the new release they just made.

Well, they had to do something to appeal to all of the trailer trash JSP's who think that this movie is the best movie ever made but refused to buy it because of "them black bars"... Heck, at Wal*Mart, the JSP's children even get their very own die cast car with the pan-and-scan edition that they can take out and blow up with a firecracker...

dont think it needs to be said... but how about LotR: EE.
so much better than the theatrical cut, the extras are so freakin extensive you could dang near make a LotR-esque movie yourself, and the case is really nice as well.. I like how it looks like a 'lil book and when I have all 3 films in the EE version it'll be even cooler.
The original release pretty much sux by comparison.
I also like the new DC of Dances with Wolves, Star Trek II: Wrath of Khan DC, Seven, Aliens SE/DC, Highlander 10th Ann/DC, Leon (was this even released on dvd in its original theatrical cut?! lol!), T2 UE...

I'll only upgrade if the original release wasn't Anamorphic or didn't have a DD 5.1 or DTS soundtrack (won't upgrade from DD 5.1 to DTS as it doesn't sound much better on my system) or the new release adds a signifcant amount of new footage to the film.
That said, I've rarely upgraded as I generally refuse to buy movies that aren't released in Anamorphic and DD 5.1.
I think all I've upgraded are Seven, Pulp Fiction and Silence of the Lambs. I loved all those movies too much to pass up the orginal releases.
I'm thinking of getting the new Dances with Wolves sometime though, for the extra footage.
