Kill Bill dvd...???
Film fans are already pissed KILL BILL will be cut in two. I totally agree, yet I will most deffinitly pay twice to see it, that is if I loved the first half (which im sure I will)
But if Miramax expects us to buy 2 seperate dvds, I will crap a brick.
Crossing my fingers Miramax doesn't screw us over like they already have

Would it bother you if it was two DVDs in one case?

No not at all. My objection is this:
Miramax is already screwing over people by making em pay twice for the same movie. (At first i read KILL BILL would be nearly 4 hours long, so I totally agreed it should be cut, like THE MATRIX films. But when I found out it was only actually 3 hours, thats just silly to cut into two movies. 3 hour movies are fine and accepted, look at THE LORD OF THE RINGS.)
BUt whatever. Miramax wants me to pay twice? 9 bucks turns to 18 bucks to see the same movie? Fine whatever. Its lame, but I'll do it.
BUt where Marimax might try and screw us over again is with the dvd release. Would you want to spend 20 bucks on a dvd, and then another 20 for the second half of it?
1 dvd release, containing the full cut of the movie. period

If Miramax waits to release 1 DVD then we will have about 50 threads complaining because it's taken them a year to release the first half.
If there splitting it into 2 films, good for them, the movie cost like $150 million & it will be a hell of alot easier to make that money back with 2 90min films as opposed to 1 180min film. WB & NL are doing more or less the same thing with The Matrix & Lord Of The Rings, were all parts (2 Matrix & 3 LOTR) were filmed together & then edited into seperate features. They are even going to include a Deleted Scene from The Two Towers in Return Of The King, why no complaint about not getting that scene in the extended edition DVD?
when the 2 seperate dvds are released I am betting on 2-Disc sets for each part anyways.

As of yesterday, it's official: Kill Bill is two movies. I can't really comment on it until I hear of the running times. If the running times amount to what would be considered the maximum practical running time or less when combined, I'll be upset, but if they amount to more than a practical running time, I'll accept it. "Apocalypse Now Redux" was released at 202 minutes. If the combined totals of both parts of "Kill Bill" exceed 3 hours 22 minutes, it would be totally acceptable. Someone on the Tarantino newsgroup said that the movies combined would be 4 hours 45 minutes long but he provided no source, but if it's true I'd rather have it split up into two than have 90 minutes chopped out.

150 million? It cost 50. They filmed in China. Cheap production costs there

From the Kill Bill movie talk thread, here are my predictions for the dvd:
The Good, Bad and the Ugly of the future dvd release of Kill Bill
The Good (what we wish would happen): The movie is released as a two dvd set. One disc contains the entire, uncut version of the movie with best possible A/V along with Tarantino commentary (we can wish can't we?). the second disc contains extras ala Jackie Brown.
The Bad (what may happen): The movie is released as two seperate dvd's, released a few months apart.
The Ugly (what WILL happen): The movie is first released as two seperate dvd's, again released a few months apart. Then, when everyone's purchased them, they decide to release the Kill Bill: Killer Edition containing both parts of the film, new extras, better A/V, and a special "Limited" number of putrid looking dvd cases.

Realistically, I doubt the idea would catch on, but how would you like any longer movie broken up? such as Gangs of NY? or LOTR in 6 parts? Seems like you're just paying twice for something that you're used to getting. And I'm sure people will hate that.
Miramax is free to do it, I just hope it doesn't catch on.
Also, since both films are ready, and a re really intended as one, I wonder how long it will b between the two. They could certainly get both on one DVD as it's all there. I hope that's what they'll do.

That was depressing to read. I think you hit the nail on the head. I wouldn't be suprised if they did that

The DVD permutations are endless.
There were no obstacles involved in splitting up `Kill Bill' at all because I've always designed the movie, thought about the film, as malleable in any number of versions," Mr. Tarantino said in his statement. That includes different versions for Asia, America and Europe.

Before I get my panties all in a wad. I prefer to wait and see what actually happens. You people can speculate yourselves to death, but basically you're freaking out about something that hasn't even happened yet.
But for what it's worth, if "Kill Bill" is great, a classic on par with "Pulp Fiction," then I would much rather spend money for two movie tickets for it than pay for one bargain matinee ticket for something like "Charlie's Angels: Full Throttle."

It was also mentioned by Sheperd Smith that the second half of Kill Bill could be in theaters as early as 2 months after the first half (it was also mentioned that it could be like The Matrix & be 6 months before the other half is shown)

i think the shortest wait between movies would be the best. as where matrix revolutions has built in buzz, even though reloaded had its detractors, kill bill is different.
if the first part is bad, critically panned, or unappreciated by audiences, a longer wait for part 2 would be like releasing a sequel to hope floats (pulled that one out of my ass) now. if its a month or 2 in between there would be less chance of financial failure.

I'll wait to see how this turns out, but here's what really bothers me.
As many of you know, Quentin Tarantino has hosted many of his own film festivals in Austin, TX in past years. For 2 weeks he shows movies that he loves that we (the film fans) may have missed.
On one of those nights, he showed Richard Lester's Three Musketeers and Four Musketeers back-to-back. He always introduces the movies with lots of excitement -- and if my memory serves me right he talked on and on about how Lester created this great big wonderful epic and then the movie studio chopped it in half to try to make double the money on one movie. ........ Hmmmmmmmmmmmm. Sorry if I rambled.

Miramax had better hope they know what they're doing with this. I respect Tarantino as a filmmaker, but he hasn't put out a film in several years, and his last one had some mixed reactions: Some people, especially critics, consider Jackie Brown his best film overall (in terms of acting, storyline, etc.) while others, mostly movie fans, were turned off by it, expecting more bloodshed, humor, and action (ala Pulp and Reservoir).
Thus, some people will eagerly anticipate his next film, while others no longer give him a second thought.
If the "first half" (Kill Bill pt. 1) bombs with movie watchers and/or is trashed by critics, the "second half" of Kill Bill is going to be a really hard sell.

davejt2 - you hit it on the head. Splitting the film is risky in case the 1st half flops.
Also, you can not compare this film to the Matrix or LOTR films. Both those series were seperate films from the very beginning. It is not like the made one Matrix film and it was so long that they decided to split it up. The same is true about LOTR.
Also, the running time of the 2 pieces will have to take into account the time added for an extra end-credit sequence on Part 1.
