20 minutes a night.......

Hey all....

I was just wondering if anyone else out there often suffers from the "20 minutes a night" syndrome?

That is, you are so busy that the only way it seems you can watch a movie is to watch it when you go to bed -- for about 20 minutes -- before you doze off. Yea, at this rate it takes about a week to watch a movie.... Haha...I'm sure you can relate sometimes...

Peace,

Matt

chrisfarrar 07-16-03 12:44 PM

Well i've got a ton of time on my hands since it's summer, but when the fall semester of college starts back, i'll be lucky to watch 2 movies a week.

Groucho 07-16-03 12:45 PM

20 minutes a night? My wife only wishes!

Oh wait, wrong forum.

Nevermind.

mookiemeister 07-16-03 02:43 PM

Watching for 20 minutes at a time? Sure. I do that all the time.

lesterlong 07-16-03 02:56 PM

Umm no. I watch the whole movie and then I fall asleep. Luckily I have yet to own a movie I've fallen asleep to.

victant 07-16-03 03:02 PM

I used to have to finish a movie that I started, regardless of the time or even my schedule. But, eventually, I found that there was nothing (much) lost in splitting a movie up, especially the longer 3 1/2 hr ones.

yeek 07-16-03 03:17 PM

Funny how you mention this...I've been doing quite a bit of this lately...it doesn't really bother me either since I'm too tired when I doze off anyway...then resume the next night!

BassDude 07-16-03 03:22 PM

I try not to... It's kinda like viewing a painting with a bit of it covered until later, or listening to a part of a song, then listening to the rest later. As a result I have a large backlog of "to-be-watched" DVDs on my shelf. But for the lesser efforts (popcorn flicks, action flicks) I'll watch what I can when I can.

My prob is Rated R language and my kids forcing me to break up viewings. I can only watch when they are at a friends or asleep, and when asleep, I can't fire up the JBLs! Aargh!

wendersfan 07-16-03 03:25 PM

I usually manage at least a half-hour. Take that, Groucho... ;)

Caliking 07-16-03 03:25 PM

im way too busy! i do this too often. up until last year i always finished all my movies...but now, i dont usually get a chance during the week to start a movie until about 10 pm (unless there is a good game on) and because i wake up at 5 am im tired at about 10:30-11pm.

chsidwel 07-16-03 03:49 PM

I have a hard time stopping a movie once I have started it (at least a movie I haven't seen before). I've intended to only watch part of a movie, but I'll end up staying up to finish the movie.

One exception is Me, Myself & Irene. It kept freezing at the same spot in the xbox (our upstairs player) and I haven't been able to get the wife downstairs to finish it. It's been over a week.

2 x 8-month-old = watching movies in 30 minute intervals

uteotw 07-16-03 04:52 PM

Yes, I do this all the time, though usually for slightly more than 20 minutes, maybe 1/3 of a flick each night. I'd rather do this than watch network TV any day...

Tscott 07-16-03 05:43 PM

Have you thought about getting TV shows on DVD? The half hour shows are usually around 22 mins. without the ads. The hour shows about 45-50 mins.- so you'd only have to say up about a half hour later if you got something like Buffy or Babylon 5.

MEJHarrison 07-16-03 06:08 PM

During the week I don't get a chance to really settle in with a DVD till around 10:30. So I usually watch movies on the weekend when I don't have to get to bed as early. Then during the week I'll go through commentaries and extras. So far it's been working out quite well. Tonight is the Hunter S. Thompson commentary on Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas. Tomorrow will probably pick up from the point I fall asleep tonight. :) Friday will be a new movie and next week I'll finish the Fear and Loathing bonus features and whatever is on Friday's disc.

matome 07-16-03 06:37 PM

I do it all the time. Maybe I'm just getting old, but I can't seem to stay awake as long as I used to.

Chew 07-16-03 08:07 PM

I tend to watch most of my movies in 2-3 parts.

It might have more to due with ADD than being sleepy. ;)

DVDTalker002 07-16-03 08:20 PM

I seem to be doing it more and more now a days. And its not that I dont have the time. But that I seem not to have the same attention span I had 5 years ago. I used to be able to watch 3 in a night. Now I'm lucky to finish one. Maybe movies have just gotten boring?

eedoon 07-17-03 12:55 AM

Never. Usually I watch movie in its entirety, except when the movie is very long and separated into two parts. And recently I began to listen to commentary after watching the movie every night.

mikewendt 07-17-03 01:08 AM

I don't have it down to a spesific time frame, but it's more like whenever I get a free second... Anyway I know what you mean.

ArchibaldTuttle 07-17-03 01:11 AM

I am starting to turn into my dad ::shudder::, whenever we used to rent movies he would fall asleep a half hour into it, I have started to do that myself no matter what time a day it is, no matter what movie it is, I usually wake up some time later before it ends and watch whatever is left, then go back and watch the part I slept during

DeanoBKN 07-17-03 01:30 AM

Unless I have friends over, I usually always break up my movies into a couple nights. Especially on the super long ones. It took me a week to watch Once Upon A Time In America.

I try to watch the extras whenever I can. I pretty much skip all commentaries now. Too many DVD's, too little time.

Panda Phil 07-17-03 02:33 AM

I generally have to watch a movie all the way through. However I'll often load a disk, turn off the tv, and go to bed with the commentary track playing in the background.

The Bus 07-17-03 05:32 AM

I'm lucky if I can sneak in Brakhage's Eye Myth.

chesola 07-17-03 11:08 AM

I know someone who watches movies in 20 minute intervals and it drives me nuts. I don't start a movie unless I intend to finish it. Movies weren't made to be watched in chunks.
