the scarface giftset! (contains both versions of movie!!!)

according to
http://homevideo.universalstudios.co...boxSetId=34247
you will be able to get the box set for 59.99 retail and the only way to get the original 1932 version. Unfortunatly, it looks like they will cram special features all on one disc for the 83 scarface

Nice, I'll be picking that up.

What makes you think 83 Scarface will only be one disc? Did I miss something?

Snap means a form of keep case on Universal's site, since it snaps close.

Also, I have to admit, when I first saw this thread, I feared there was gonna be a version of Scarface with the rumored rap track.

wouldn't "fullframe" be the OAR for a film from 1932?

1953 (as Chad posted the link to the IMDb entry for The Robe), and even before that there were a handful of other widescreen movies. (To say "no movies before 195x" is incorrect.)

I was really looking forward to seeing the original out on DVD, but I have absolutely zero interest in the 1983 version, so I won't be buying at all.

Obviously you've never heard of Abel Gance's Napoleon.

I know a lot of people are happy about this release, but I think it sucks. While I'd love to own the 1932 version (I'm a big Howard Hawks fan), I wouldn't spend a penny on the De Palma version. This is IMO even worse extortion that the Fox Studio Classics Sunrise scam. At least you were given the opportunity to buy good movies to get it...

It seems a tad expensive.

Damn Universal.

Howard Hawks >>> Brian DePalma (direction)
Ben Hecht >> Oliver Stone (screenplay)
Paul Muni > Al Pacino (at least in this role)

Therefore: 1932 >> 1983

Yet Universal disses the superior 1932 film by placing it as an extra only available on the expensive boxset (similar to their tactic with placing Charade as an extra on the grossly inferior The Truth About Charlie). Another slap in the face to classic film fans.

No sale.

Ugh.
