Waco: The Rules of Engagement - why isn't it on DVD?
I was fascinated by this movie when I saw it a few months ago, and the fact that it's not on DVD is pretty frustrating. The weird thing is that on Half.com, a DVD release is listed (as unavailable), with cover art and everything:
http://half.ebay.com/cat/buy/prod.cg...1877&meta_id=3
So does anyone know what's up with this? Or if there are any plans to put it out (or back out as the case may be)? I'd skip work to be first in line to buy it.

There is no DVD release (except possibly bootlegs). I have had the VHS since it first came out. It's an amazing film that was nominated for a Best Documentary Academy Award.
There is a "sequel," Waco: A New Revelation, which AFAIK has not been released on video in any form.
Another by the same filmmaker that is available (again, on VHS) is The F.L.I.R. Project which refutes a government study which concluded that the government did not shoot at Davidians who were trying to escape the fire.

I would love to have all three of these on DVD. A boxed set would be nice.

The federal government probably doesn’t want you to know about their Saddam Hussein like actions so they won’t let it get released on DVD (maybe it’s the same reason They Live was released for a limited time in the US and probably won’t be re-released despite the SE in the UK and Germany)

I would think that the legal liability costs that would be projected for a project like this, for the producers and the media company releasing it, are not estimatable, and, as well, not covered by any insurance known to Man. In other words, you could produce it, but it could, bankrupt EVERYONE involved.
Imagine trying to promote something like this ????

Maybe because a lot of things are not on dvd yet. give it some time. I'm still waiting for Pumping Iron.. Oh wait, I forgot, "the man" wants to keep that film covered up because of Arnold's little smoking thing in it.. You can't have the next president of the U.S. be seen toking it and lifting weights..
Oh crap, did I say that outloud? I have said to much..

The three films have all been made and two have been released on VHS. I haven't heard about any legal problems.

because new yorker home video has the distribution rights to it, and since the launch of dvd, they are just not very good at releasing their titles to dvd.
According to the trades, new yorker is claiming they are going to beef up on their releases this year and next.
We shall see...

Considering the fact that the film makes Janet Reno, Clinton, and particularly Chuck Schumer look bad (and jon Conyers look like a blathering fool) I dont think the current administration would have a problem with the release. Besides the Masons have eased up a bit since Art Bell retired.

This was originally scheduled for release by New Yorker for a 4/30/1999 release, but was cancelled.

If that's correct, then now I remember...some guy hosts that show "Coast to Coast" (610 WIOD here S. Florida)...and that Art Bell has come back and hosts it on the weekends. I THINK. Maybe I should stop thinking.
Oh wait...must make this post somewhat on topic. I've never seen any of these particular films being discussed, but am interested in doing so. Sounds worthy of a rent at least.
