Should I wait and hold out until October 14th, or should I head straight to ebay?

if you belong to costco they had a bunch this weekend, along with the 2dvd big trouble in little china

reubs82 07-08-03 09:09 PM

Is Big Trouble in Little China difficult to find? I saw the two-disc DTS set at Borders last weekend. If anyone is interested let me know.

lesterlong 07-08-03 09:30 PM

Wow, 2 replies that have no relation towards the poster's question. That could be a pricedrop on the barebones release. I

MasterCXtreme 07-08-03 09:30 PM

Hmm, interesting. Umm, go to Costco I guess. I hear they're selling them.

Well, the MSRP for the 1-disc issue (which is not bare bones, by the way) is currently $19.98, so $26.95 couldn't be a price drop.

It would be so ****ed up if they bring back the OOP 2 disk version.

DVD market is full of gimmicks and i am tired of it. Why are there 3-4 different versions on each movie. and if studios play supply and demand games like making a movie OOP and then bringing it back as a different version, then bring back the OOP version.

This is ridiculous. I will never buy a DVD again. ****, I can get all the movies I for free online anyways. The DVD industry will not make a red cent from me.

DonnachaOne 07-08-03 10:22 PM

Well, I'm off to eBay.

On a completely unrelated note, I'm selling a Fight Club SE for $40 on eBay! Get it while it's hot!

There are only two DVD editions of Fight Club. The release in question is the OOP version. You will buy a DVD again (like it or not, we all do), and you'll quickly learn bootlegging movies is stupid and criminal.

Revoltor 07-08-03 11:02 PM

I agree with johndoe to an extent. The industry needs to stop pulling stupid crap like this. Special Editions of popular movies going out of print should never happen.

If piracy is a product of it then so be it.

Fox has stated that the OOP 2-disc sets will be brought back at some time.

To answer your question. Yes, it is being re-released. Another site, Barnes & Noble also has this up for pre-order!

Buck Turgidson 07-09-03 03:43 AM

Until then, and probably afterwards, sealed 2 disc copies will fetch king's ransoms on eBay, just as copies of Alien, Aliens and the Alien Quadrology now do.

I understand how some people may want to get a complete set, with all the variations, but a lot of the copy for those items makes it sound as if they'll never, ever be available again. (Dishonest puffery on eBay...shocking, I know...)

If this wasn't my favorite movie and DVD, I might sell it off and wait for a release. Alas, I don't trust this information just yet. And even if it was confirmed, I'm not risking it.

You don't need to. You have the 2 disc version, the exact same thing that is being re-released. No new extras, maybe slightly different packaging.

davejt1 07-09-03 07:47 AM

This from davis dvd:

DOUBLE THE PLEASURE

A number of two-disc sets previously placed on moratorium are being re-released from 20th Century Fox. Among the reissues are The Abyss, Cast Away, Fight Club, Independence Day, Moulin Rouge, The Sound of Music, and Planet of the Apes (2001). Retail is $26.98 each and all are available beginning on October 14th.

No, I know it's the exact same set. But I could use the extra cash till it's re-released. But it's somewhat unfair to use this knowledge for evil. I'll just hold onto it, methinks.

Hmm, I wonder if it's actually going to be in a keepcase, one of the thin ones like Cast Away. I kinda like the cardboard packaging. I mean, this is all irrelevant as I already own it. Still, I wonder. I mean, that could just be a mistake in the listing.

K

Revoltor 07-09-03 09:01 AM

What the Hell? No Big Trouble in Little China?

I think at a htf chat with Fox a few months back, they actually said they were being re-released in snazzier cardboard digipack packaging.

ArchibaldTuttle 07-09-03 12:27 PM

wow cool, I was worried I would have to pay a lot more than retail for a used copy of the oop version

RocShemp 07-09-03 12:34 PM

Costco is selling the two disc sets of Big Trouble In Little China, The Rocky Horror Picture Show, Independance Day, The Abyss, Die Hard and Fight Club in order to promote the upcoming Daredevil DVD. Each one of these two disc sets includes a coupon (five bucks I think) towards your purchase of Daredevil at Costco.

Jackskeleton 07-09-03 01:10 PM

to the folks complaining about this, Fox has put down the gun that was pointing at your head.. You are no longer demanded to buy this dvd. so make the choice and live with it.

So I guess it would be too much to hope that The Abyss with finally be anamorphic? What will this be, the fourth non-anamorphic version released?

Revoltor 07-09-03 02:19 PM

I don't and never will have a costco memership. I might give some money to my boss to pick it up this weekend.

I just want to go to a normal B&M to pick it up. It'd probably be cheaper.
