Review of Day of the Dead special edition

Here is a total review of the day of the dead special edition http://members.tripod.com/drlogan/updates.htm
The guy that wrote this review helped out with the DVDs production..... anyway, it looks pretty damn cool.

Thanks for the heads up. Sounds like a really good deal.

Tyler_Durden 07-08-03 02:37 AM

Yes, sounds good, thanks. The teaser trailer is one of the very best ones I've seen, and a great clip to show to people who haven't seen it before. :D

highdef 07-08-03 05:38 AM

Wow, I can't wait!

Giles 07-08-03 07:59 AM

what does the review mean when they state 'Japanese JVD "Producer’s Cut" from 1997' how different was that version?

DeputyDave 07-08-03 08:23 AM

 Very cool

This set looks great. I'm very happy to see that AB reinstated the UFDC "sting" that appeared at the beginning of the old Media VHS version (and was missing from their previous DVD). That's the way I first saw the film way back when and to me, that logo is a part of the film. :)

Kinda strange about the slightly different dialogue in a couple of lines, but I can live with it.

That was Taurus Entertainment's "TV version" of the film, which was only released in Japan, on laserdisc in 1997 and later on DVD (by Japan Video Distribution). The tremendous amount of profanity in the original film meant that entire character's voices had to be completely redubbed in some cases, to clean up the language. Also, the majority of gory scenes were also removed, making some parts of the film completely incomprehensible. Who knows why this butchered version was called a "Producers cut".

I can't wait.

Now if they would hurry and finish Dawn of the Dead.

The picture may be viewed as more composed and the other things "empty information", but I still would have preferred having the movie multibox, or true anamorphic so that the whole picture can fit into a black matte.

Is he saying the disc isn't in anamorphic widescreen (it is), that he wants the movie reframed to a scope aspect ratio, that his set's overscan is lopping off too much, or what?

Geofferson 07-08-03 08:25 PM

Sounds like a great disc!

Thanks for the review link. Interesting...

Definitely pre-ordering this one!

That sentence confuses me too. What is "multibox"? I think that he would prefer that the DVD was presented open-matte, as he thinks that the framing is too tight, but I'm not sure what he is getting at here, as far as fitting the "whole picture into a black matte".

Brrrrrrroken Link. Oh how I love Tripod.

Adam Tyner 07-09-03 06:38 AM

Still works for me, Doug.

Pac-Rat 07-09-03 09:11 AM

As if I wasn't stoked enough about this! As usual for me, the first thing I'll be doing is listening to Savini.

Oh, I don't get the "multibox"/reframing either.

No, I'm quite sure he means that 1.78:1 would be "true anamorphic", whereas with 1.85:1 you have some black space on the top and bottom not taking overscan into account.

El-Kabong 07-09-03 12:17 PM

Damn you tripod! "Bandwith limit exceeded! Please try again in 4 hours."

And this is why you SUCK as a web hosting service.

Giles 07-09-03 01:31 PM

I gather from the review that there are no deleted scenes to speak of... :(

Revoltor 07-09-03 02:20 PM

Deleted scenes aren't always a good thing. There's usually a good reason why they were deleted.

Of course it's still a nice thing to have.
