Region 1 Hong Kong Legends Release

Somewhere I read there were going to be Region 1 releases for some of the HKL titles. Other than the missing commentary does anyone know the difference between the two? What will the titles be? Currently, I am able to only locate these titles scheduled for R1 release.

- Naked Killer
- Hong Kong 1941
- City Hunter
- Magnificent Butcher

The front and back cover art is up at DVDEmpire for some of the titles. They don't even credit HKL now and it just has Digitally Remastered at the bottom. It says Fortune Star on the back and the features are basic like interviews and music promos and stuff.

Just noticed "Naked Killer" is being advertised on this site. New specs & a great MSRP: $15. I've never seen it, but for that price I'll check it out.

I love Magnificent Butcher, one of my favorite "old school" martial arts flix. I'm not much of a fan of Naked Killer, so I can't recommend that one. The other movies in the bunch are all great films though and I highly recommend them. I just wish they had the commentary from the HKL disks, which are EXCELLENT!

Unfortunately, it appears that Naked Killer is an edited version.

I will stick to the R2. Ben Logan is half the reason for picking up many of these.

I'm disappointed that Naked Killer is cut. I thought that since Fox teamed up with HKL that all the dvds would be uncut.

Anyone know why his commentaries are missing for the North American releases?

Rumours say either Fox didn't think US audiences would understand Logan's British accent or they just didn't want to pay the extra licencing fees for the commentary.

Aside from "Naked Killer" are any of these films cut?

I was more than happy to buy three of these movies on Tuesday because FOX is at least making some effort to release the films in a manner that i like.

And while i would have liked to hear the Bey Logan commentaries...i can live without them. Maybe if the movies sell well enough FOX may get the hint and include him on future discs.

I will be pissed if i find out any of the movies i bought are cut.

As I recall it was because they didn't think US audiences would want to listen to Logan's accent, not that they wouldn't understand. Small difference but equally stupid in my opinion.

I don't believe City Hunter, Hong Kong 1941 & Magnificent Butcher are cut. I do know some HKL versions have small cuts, like Eastern Condors, but I'm pretty sure the 3 above are uncut.

Bey Logan's commentaries are nearly essential for me so I've been sticking with the UK versions so far but as Fox releases more discs that I don't have the temptation may be too much.
