For release 3 days later? It's a sure bet that one of those dates is wrong. All DVDs are released on Tuesdays.

Wow, the film is so not worthy of such a cool cover. And it's a little misleading too, but who cares. I might just order it anyway.

How is it misleading, if I may ask?
Spoiler:
Because of the cityscape?
Or the 'Zombi 2' moniker?

But I agree, that's a NICE cover!

Yeah, pretty much...
Spoiler:
Despite the final scene of the film,
that cover is anything but an accurate description (if a cover is even supposed to be one) of what the movie contains. But in the end, "zombies on a tropical island" isn't nearly as apocalyptic a scenario as "zombies in an urban setting [acting as a metaphor for society's ills]".

Just to set things straight in my head; this movie is the same movie that was released in the US as Zombie? I have the DVD bellow (and love it). If it is the same movie, what are the differences?

The movie's the same AFAIK (personally, I've always liked to call it by its UK title, Zombie Flesh Eaters ), only the upcoming release will be newly remastered. It has unique extras too. That above cover always makes me smile, by the way, because it's so hideously ugly that I don't think anybody who has bought the current release has regretted it. It's probably the most honest cover art I've seen yet.

Any reason why I should upgrade my old Anchor Bay edition, considering Anchor Bay is the king of horror DVDs, and I cant imagine a small outlet like Shriek Show being able to top AB's. Is this shriek show even a legit label? Is this a Madacy like outfit?

Shriek Show is completely legit, and it'll be nearly impossible for them to do a worse job than Anchor Bay did on this film. The AB disc is a poorly-compressed port of a laserdisc, and if the SS disc comes off as expected, it'll definitely be worth the upgrade. Hopefully SS will also be releasing the film in its fully uncut form, as opposed to the slightly cut version that AB put out. AB may be the king of horror, but their Zombie disc leaves a lot to be desired, and SS has been doing some more-than-decent horror releases for a while now.

I'd heard the AB release wasn't too hot - I'll be springing for the newer one - thanks.

Wow, I didn't know the AB version is cut. That's the only version I've seen. Great news in the sense that this new release will offer something gore more...

Hey Gorehounds!

This is what I´ve found on Shriek Show´s website:

For the first time, newly remastered from the original negatives, completely uncut and loaded with extras! Lucio Fulci’s (Shriek Show’s LIZARD IN A WOMAN’S SKIN, DEMONIA) worm-infested, violent voodoo masterpiece returns! Starring Ian McCulloch (Shriek Show’s ZOMBIE HOLOCAUST), Tisa Farrow, Richard Johnson (THE HAUNTING, TOMB RAIDER), Al Cliver (Shriek Show’s DEMONIA, HOUSE OF CLOCKS), Auretta Gay, Olga Karlatos (KEOMA, Fulci’s MURDEROCK). ZOMBI 2 (aka ZOMBIE, ZOMBIE FLESH-EATERS) revolutionized international horror cinema, raising the bar for stylish atmosphere and gore that has yet to be surpassed! A second disc of extra footage, including interviews with the screenwriters, most of the production team, and Special FX Genius Gianetto De Rossi

The movie will be released in 2 versions. One regular 1-disc
DVD as well as 2-disc SE. I´m going for the SE, that´s for sure.
Shriek Show´s pretty cool, I have their Zombie
Holocaust DVD which rocks. The House at the edge of the park was a pretty stellar release as well. So I don´t think they will screw up this one.

Right, because small labels are all low quality, just like the other small label Criterion...

OK, so while they're no Criterion they definitely are not on the same side as Madacy or Diamond. I have about 3-4 Shriek Show discs, all are good. I have no doubt that these are the best quality versions of the films available on DVD. I own the AB version and wouldn't hesitate to trade it in for this one.

I can't get to their website, does anyone have any info on the other release, Zombie 5: Killing Birds? Any other titles this film was released under, and any link to description, info would be appreciated!

I have a ton of releases from SS...with more coming in the next month or so. I think they do a first rate job...and are putting out better titles(for me) than AB of late. AB was #1 with me a while back, now they are 3rd behind SS and my #1 ranked...Blue Underground.

Although in the caveat emptor department, it is worth pointing out that Shriek Show have released a high percentage of defective and/or just plain botched discs. I think TWO ORPHAN VAMPIRES was the only repressing they did, but there have been complaints about a lot of their titles. Their Tokyo Shock line is also the target of many complaints. Their president often posts to cult movie boards like Mobius Home Video Forum and DVD Maniacs and he always seems completely clueless about the problems. I gather that the most recent complaints are that the TWO ORPHAN VAMPIRES replacement disc has subtitles that won't work on some players, and their EMANUELLE AND THE LAST CANNIBALS plays squeezed on many players. I remember someone saying that they had to fiddle with the zoom button (!?) to get the image to unsqueeze. Clearly they've still got some glitches to work out, so pre-order with that in mind.

thanks...I'm aware of past problems but I myself have had none. I think that the whole dvd world is one big glitch...so the few problems they have had has not phased me. I do respect thier choice of titles that are poppin' up...at least they've got that under control....they can work out the rest as they go along. that reminds me....I have some more pre-ordering to do.
