Utilizing the best 35mm print of the 1929 reissue from the George Eastman House and material from the UCLA Film and Television Archive, this stunning video master features a magnificent orchestral score by Carl Davis and a stunning restoration of the Technicolor masked ball sequence! 2-Disc DVD Collector's Set! Includes Two Versions! 1925 Original Feature (110 mins.) with a Score by Jon Mirsalis, 1929 Restored Version (98 mins.) with Two Soundtracks by Carl Davis (stereo) and the Original Theatrical Soundtrack (mono).

The film was reedited and rereleased at 8382 feet on December 15, 1929, by Universal Pictures Corporation, with added Western Electric Vitaphone sound-on-disk sound system talking sequences, ballet and operatic sections. The new sound sequences were directed by Ernst Laemmle, featuring dialogue by Frank McCormack. Sound recording by C. Roy Hunter. Mary Fabian replaced Virginia Pearson as Carlotta in new full-sound opera scenes shot for the 1929 reissue, and Pearson became Carlotta’s mother in reediting and retitling. AFI-F2 n. F2.4231 notes that scenes with John Sainpolis as Philippe de Chagny were deleted from the 1929 version, and were reshot for sound with Edward Martindel.

Wow. I'm overjoyed to see the silent classics getting "the treatment". Awesome. Guess I'll eBay the current one I have.
