Twilight Zone vs The Outer Limits on DVD

Which do you prefer?Since there were less episodes of Outer Limits does this matter. What about the second season of The Outer Limits?Any gems in that shortened season?Do you have every episode of the Twlight Zone?

I plan on owning all of both. I love both equally. I bought the Outer Limits Season 1 the first day it was out. I plan on doing the same with 2, whenever it gets released. I just now(last week), started collecting the Zone collections. just wrapped up the 1st set and will be buying the 2nd on monday.

I bought all 5 of the Twilight Zone collections, so yup, I have every episode.

I'd never seen The Outer Limits before, but I bought the Season 1 set, and didn't really care for it. I wound up selling it on eBay. I did buy the two releases they did for the new series, and really enjoyed them. I hope they release more of those.

I love them both.

OL is a little scarier (when I was a kid) than TZ.

I own 4 TZ DVDs and I do not own any OL. I just check on EBay and I could get OL for about $40 and Season 2 will be come out in Sept. The next wedding I do, I will pickup both sets.

TZ is clearly, for me, the better show, however, I sure as hell appreciate the format of the OL dvd release much, much better. They're in order, they're in season sets, they're cheap. What's not to love?

Outer Limits hands down. Nothing beats those episodes, the stories, cinemetogrophy/editing/soundtrack are hands above TZ.

TZ there are alot more of, and some are really, really good, but OL creates more of a mood and has better monsters...so case closed!

I grew up watching both series in syndication, so it's VERY close, but if I could have only one, I would go with THE OUTER LIMITS.

In the second season of THE OUTER LIMITS, you had some of the best episodes of the series... SOLDIER, DEMON WITH A GLASS HAND, THE INHERITORS and THE PREMONITION.

Over the years, I'm pretty sure that I've seen every episode of THE TWILIGHT ZONE, but I've just ordered the first two collection box sets, and by the end of the summer, I'll have the other three...

I agree with Pinback (Like the handle BTW) OL wins by a nose for me, and the 2nd season is better than the 1st IMHO. I have the OL set that has come out, and all the TZs (bought as individual releases no less, back in the day. Anyone else remember sweating when Image went a couple of months before announcing that the last volume would be released. They only had 2 1/2 hour episodes left, and most of the DVDs had 2 hours worth of shows on them. There were a lot of people, myself included, who thought that Image might not release the last two shows. They finally did, but kept us on pins and needles the whole time.)

I guess I would have to agree, as the two best OL episodes are in the second season - SOLDIER and DEMON WITH A GLASS HAND...

However, there were great episodes in the first season - THE HUNDRED DAYS OF THE DRAGON, THE ARCHITECTS OF FEAR, THE MAN WHO WAS NEVER BORN, NIGHTMARE, SPECIMEN: UNKNOWN, A FEASIBILITY STUDY. Probably the two creepiest episodes - THE GUESTS and DON'T OPEN TILL DOOMSDAY. An episode that has to be one of the oddest things that was EVER broadcast - THE FORMS OF THINGS UNKNOWN. And one of my personal favorites - THE ZANTI MISFITS. (I even took a few in.......)

Both of these series are excellent and I love them both. I have only purchased the OL but am looking forward to getting the entire TZ as well.

THE FORMS OF THINGS UNKNOWN is my favorite Outer Limits. A really amazing, creative piece of television.

However, TWILIGHT ZONE is my favorite of the two series. Those episodes were more consistantly insightful. Timeless and endlessly entertaining, I think its the greatest TV series ever produced.

I grew up a big TZ fan, having seen them all multiple times over the years. In the same time, I'd only seen a handful of OL episodes. Got both & love'm equally. BTW, the TZ Gold Collection absolutely RULES & is definitely the pride of my collection. Already have OL S2 pre-ordered. Both are great in the own right IMO.
Cheers

Both excellent, surpassing anything done today. OL wins slightly by having more imaginitive, intelligent scripts. TZ seemed more character driven, fantasy rather than science fiction. maybe even a touch more literary from time to time.

Luckily, we have both and don't need to choose.

Yup, DON'T OPEN TIL DOOMESDAY and THE ZANTI MISFITS is some of the best monster/sci-fi ever done period. I also love THE MUTANT, and IT CRAWLED OUT OF THE WOODWORK scared the piss out of me as a 6 year old watcing it on UHF television back in the mid 70's.

Can't wait to get the 2nd Season.

Anybody notice A FESIBLITY STUDY is DARK CITY?

I also noticed that similarity to Dark City.
One other thing, all that fog with the creatures walking out of it made me think of John Carpenter's The Fog.

Another ep that makes me think of Alex Proyas is THE INVISIBLES. In that one, small spongy aliens could inhabit peoples bodies. Sorta like the jellyfish creatures in Dark City.

I used to watch a lot of these on the weekends with an antenna on the roof, praying for a good signal. Most of the ones I saw back then were snowy which made it even creepier I suppose since my imagination filled in the blanks. Years later I caught the series on TNT and later Sci-Fi.

Hi, one of my Outer Limits discs got scratched pretty badly by the hinged disk holder inside the box set, and Zanti Misfits is unwatchable. The sad thing is, I already knew about the problem and thought I was being pretty careful when I closed the box.

Does anyone know if there is any way of obtaining a replacement disc, or should I just give the Disc Dr. a shot?

Demon With a Glass Hand and Soldier are two of the best examples of true science fiction ever filmed for television. If I'm not mistaken, writer Harlan Ellison sued James Cameron for ripping off the basic premise of Soldier for The Terminator and I believe eventually won his suit. I kind of grew up with The Twilight Zone but upon catching a marathon of The Outer Limits on TNT in the early '90's, I quickly came to the conclusion that it was the superior series, by and large. The Zone could be *so* damn preachy at times. Good or bad (mostly good), the Limits would present an episode and then back off, without rubbing your nose in the *message*.

I just watched the original Terminator the other night, and just before the credits roll they have inserted the phrase "Acknowledgement is made to the works of Harlan Ellison".

I've never seen the Outer Limits episode "Soldier", so I'm looking forward to the season 2 DVD set to see how much of it James Cameron "borrowed".

I was scared as a kid when I 1st saw the show and those things still scare me.

You are correct! I just watched that episode, and did'nt put them together but since you mentioned it, it totally is from The Fog.

Is there anybody in Sci-fi movies/television that Ellison hasn't sued? I talked to someone who recently worked with him on a NPR show, and he told me everything you hear about him is true.

I agree.
