missing THE PAWNBROKER

Why is a great film like THE PAWNBROKER still missing on dvd. This is one of the most powerful films ever made and with one of the most powerful performances by an actor, the late rod steiger. Sidney Lumet-if you are listening is there anything you can do to get this great film on dvd.

I would love to see this one too. Rod Steiger got his make-up Oscar for In the Heat of the Night because he didn't win the one he should have for The Pawnbroker. That one went to Lee Marvin for Cat Ballou, surely one of the most bizarrely wrong Awards in the Academy's history.

The Pawnbroker will be released by Artisan on December 16. Great price at DDD:

Unfortunately, I haven't been able to ascertain if it will be OAR.

Good news; although Artisan has kind of a checkered history (they used a *colorized* print for Blood on the Sun). I hope its a decent transfer.

I doubt The Pawnbroker was ever colorized. What I'm more afraid of is that it won't be OAR.

How about if anyone finds out the aspect ratio, they report it in this thread. I've preordered it at DDD because, in any event, it should be superior to my VHS copy but please, please, please let it be OAR.

Damn Artisan! According to Digital Eyes, it's full frame.
