why don't studios use clear cases?
I just bought a few anime dvds that are from ADV and they have started to use clear dvd cases, so when you open it up, they have art work on the inside, which I thought was very cool (like music cds today). So I was just wondering why most studios haven't start to use clear cases, because I'd rather have something to look at than the black plastic. This could also be good for Universal dvds (or which ever studio) that stopped putting inserts, as the back of the cover could have the chapter list instead.

Clear cases are very common for Region 4s and Region 2s.
I got the Australian Region 4 of "Reality Bites" the other day and that has a clear case even though there's no artwork on the reverse.

Vanguard uses clear cases for many (all?) of their releases. I'm not sure how the output from other studios compares, but I think Vanguard's implementation is fairly hideous.

What I'd really like to see are dvds being released in Thinpaks to save space. Thinpacks are half as thick as regular dvds. Retailers should love them as they'd be able to have twice as many dvds out on the shelves. Here's a link about Thinpak conversion.
All your arguments for using clear cases are the same, but it just takes up less space. The page also discusses inserts and booklets possibilities.

Maybe so all the thieves can't see where the security stickers are ....?
Frankly, I could care less .. I don't buy movies for their cases. Besides, there are plenty of online sites that now carry an array of cases to choose from if you don't like the initial ones.

ah, more likely that double-sided sleeve sheets plus clear cases add to the production costs of the product! unless it becomes a trend (like the CD market), only niche releases (from small companies, ie, anime) will be put out like this.

These look like the cases for the R1 Futurama discs. If that's what they are, I wouldn't mind that. Then Tupperware and Rubbermaid could get into the replacement case business.
