I got into the DVD thing rather late. First DVD I bought was Moulin Rouge just around a little less than a year ago.

First DVD I saw though was probably three year or so years ago, I watched the opening sequence of Tomorrow Never Dies.

DivxGuy 06-30-03 09:37 PM

My first was on January 1, 1998: Pale Rider.

The City Of Lost Children

I bought The Devils Advocate (The OPP version). It was a
new release at the time. Second movie was The Jackel with
Gere and Willis.

I was looking for anything with a lot of extras and there just
weren't a ton of movies available at the time. :D

Ah yes, what a great thread. I was thinking of starting one of these. So, okay. First DVD that I bought for MYSELF was:

Monty Python & The Holy Grail (movie Only)

Then my next one was "The Matrix" for my birthday. And "X-men" and "Tommy Boy" for christmas.

I think I got these in 2000 or 2001. Somewhere in between I bet.

LordOrgg 06-30-03 10:07 PM

Labyrinth, Evil Dead, Evil Dead II, and Army of Darkness.

Phuzbox 06-30-03 10:13 PM

Dazed And Confused back in 1998

MarcinL 06-30-03 11:18 PM

Bought the player in November of 97, traded my Laserdisc player for a new Pioneer Dv-500 and 5 free movies, the movies I chose, not a lot to pick from then maybe like 40 Movies, were

Lethal Weapon
The Fugitive
Glimmer Man
Twister
Lethal Weapon 2

I no longer own those versions of Lethal Weapons, Fugitive, and Twister

But the first movie to spin in my DVD player was the Fugitive, Than I purchased Murder at 1600 and Executive Decision a week later.

I still remember owning a Snapper Version of Goldeneye, Wheh that was long ago, when I bought Apollo 13 for 34.95 and Air Force One in February of 98 for 29.99, thanked god i bought it in keepcase vs the cd case, its still with me, and cd cases never really took off

ArchibaldTuttle 06-30-03 11:29 PM

Donnie Darko last summer

My first dvd player was a gift, and I believe I saw T2 - Ultimate Edition on it, though I may be wrong. Not sure. It could've been some rental, on the other hand....

StarFyre 07-01-03 01:59 AM

Friend got me Predator for my bday :)

My first DVD was Final Destination which I then followed up with an order from Columbia House. I got:

The Matrix
Meet the Parents
Pitch Black
Dumb and Dumber

Decker 07-01-03 10:12 AM

March '98
Boogie Nights
LA Confidential
Amadeus

Note that two of those discs have been redone and upgraded, teaching me my first valuable lesson in DVD : you're going to get screwed repeatedly.

iBleedGarnet 07-01-03 10:17 AM

My first was Wishmaster. I was working at a video store, and it was given to the owner. He didn't even own a DVD player, but I had one on my computer. After that, I was hooked.

Bechman 2000 07-01-03 10:29 AM

My first DVD was Blade Runner, way back in '98.

chente 07-01-03 11:06 AM

LA Confidential a full 2 years before I got my DVD player. I had to invite myself over to people's houses to watch it. LOL.

randyba 07-01-03 11:29 AM

I got L.A Confidential for free with my player back in 1998. I think Austin Powers was the first one that I bought.

ProjectMayhem 07-01-03 12:17 PM

I bought two DVDS when I bought my Samsung player. I believe it was June 20, 2000 or whenever theses discs were released. I'm pretty sure I got them first day.

Fight Club, 2 discer-$19.99
Next Friday-$15.99

At Bes Buy.

killemall 07-01-03 12:17 PM

Metallica - S&M

MikeMay 07-01-03 12:57 PM

I'm another one who bought Boogie Nights.
I also got Space Jam.

I think I could get 6 dvds now for what I paid for them then.

Back in the summer of 2000, we got a new 27" Panasonic television, a Toshiba SD-1700, and a copy of Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon.

johnbook 07-01-03 05:19 PM

Way back in 1998 i purchased my first dvd player at target and they were giving away two dvd's of your choice with a dvd player purchase,

"For Richer Or Poorer" and

'Wizard Of Oz"...

Cornelius1047 07-01-03 05:30 PM

I think the first two DVDs I bought were Don Juan DeMarco and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, before I even got my player. Don Juan was the first one I watched on my own player. I think the first DVD I watched was Sleepy Hollow, on my friend's DVD player, in 2000. Man, I swear, all my friends had DVD players before me and I was the one who wanted one so bad. I think the second DVD I saw was Baseketball, but that might've been the first and Sleepy Hollow second. I'm not entirely sure.

While I did receive several from my brother-in-law as Christmas gifts to go with then new player, the first one I bought (which, of course, is what counts) was Blade Runner. The minute I found out it was on DVD, I ran out an bought it. I'll do it again as soon as whoever is holding it up released the CE version.
