Wayne's World - music changed?
Hi,
Got the Wayne's World 1 & 2 Complete Epic boxset in the mail this morning and noticed that there is a warning on both the DVDs that says:
Anyone know which music has been changed and why?
Thanks

I believe it comes down to the contractual music rights, and sometime the artist(s), want more money for dvd/vhs rights, or only lease their music for the theatrical version.
Not only are there changes from the theatrical movie to the video, but sometimes, there are changes from the theatrical release to the cable tv version. It's fairly common to come upon these changes...one example is Slapshot 1.
In television, look for a great example in "That 70's Show". If you notice, there is a difference in who sings the original theme song, Cheap Trick, in the original presentation, and who sings the song, (who knows ?) in the syndicated release of the show.

The only change is that 'Stairway To Heaven' by Led Zeppelin was taken out of the guitar shop scene.
It was in the theatrical version, but on none of the home video or dvd releases due to copyrights, etc.

Thanks guys
Haven't watched these yet, but I'm sure I recall Stairway to Heaven in the TV version I saw, so it's a shame it's gone I hope they've replaced it with something equally suitable

Well, the scene is still there, the salesman still points to the sign, and Wayne still says "No Stairway? Denied!"
But the notes he played on the guitar are not Stairway to Heaven anymore on the home versions

Led Zeppelin has a huge problem when it comes to rights to their songs on post theatrical releases... They've caused a few films to change the music in the film.
I also thought I heard the song on the TV version but after watching it again I realized it was changed very slightly. Same as the DVD...

It's actually said to be Kenny G, and they never actually used Kenny G. music. They used soundalike music from the very beginning in that case. I remember reading the disclaimer in the credits the very first time I saw the movie. It wasn't something done for home video. As far as I know, the only music removed from the two movies is "Stairway to Heaven" in the first film and "Batman Theme" in the second.
