X-Files Season 8?

Any word on a release date for this season?

I'm just starting Season 6 and don't want to stop anytime soon!

Any & all info is appreciated.

Don't ask me where I heard this....I can't remember.

November 8th, 2003

Actually, this info may have come from Amazon.com posting a bunch of premature release dates awhile back.

Can anyone confirm?

You may change your mind as you get a little further in. Season 6 is where the show starts its slide.

I heard 11/4 for the release. I remember cause I went into a major panic because DS9 S6 and the Indy movies were slated for that day as well and I couldn't figure out where I was going to get all that $$$.

Actually, I think season 8 was pretty decent and would have ended the series perfectly. Unfortunately, season 9 is truly atrocious and betrays almost everything before it. As far as I am concerned, it never existed.

That's how I feel about Seasons 6, 7, 8, and 9.

EDIT: By the way, here are the release dates for the sets... you can probably make an educated guess as to when the next one should roughly show up (hint -- don't bet against November):

Season 1: 05/09/00
Season 2: 11/28/00
Season 3: 05/08/01
Season 4: 11/13/01
Season 5: 05/14/02
Season 6: 11/05/02
Season 7: 05/13/03

Regular as clockwork. I can't think of another TV series that is being released in such a timely fashion. It shows that FOX is eager to please its rabid fanbase. (The absurd MSRP not withstanding)

I was unsure about buying 6 and 7, and wound up enjoying both very much on DVD. I had seen them in their original runs too. I think they're easier to enjoy when your expectations aren't so high. Just my opinion. Not sure if I'm going to by 8 or 9 though. Robert Patrick was Ok but I found Annabeth Gish mostly unbelievable in the roll.

Fox is gonna have to drop the price on the last two seasons like a rock before I will consider buying them. I'd pay Buffy season set prices for them, but not a penny more.

They should've stopped with Season 7. Eight was pretty shaky and 9 was a joke. Did anyone else find the series finale a little too rushed?

Seasons 6 and 7 were the best.

I loved Robert Patrick. He played a great role. It was Annabeth Gish that killed it for me. I cringed everytime she was on screen.

And yes it is Nov. 4, because I too was thinking about saving up since Indy comes out the same day.

A little rushed? It felt like Carter wrote it over one coke-fueled weekend!

The finale was a travesty, one of the worst pieces of television I have ever endured.

Not to mention it was a complete slap in the face to the loyal fans who had followed all of the constantly changing mythology storylines.....because it told us not one damn new thing in the total two hours. It was more of a "in case you missed anything but still want to be up to speed for the movies we plan to make" wrap up.

I think I will end it at season 8 myself. I was ok with how they ended that season. One thing about 9 is that I missed half of it so if I do get it there would be alot that I have not already seen. I only get them in the re-seller market so never paid more than $70 and got as low as $45 on 1-6.

Actually, season 8 was my favorite season, the best written of all of them IMHO. For once, it was a focused season and having Mulder gone and Doggett there breathed a whole new level of life and interest into the show.

I will agree that season 9 had about 10 bad episodes, and some were REALLY bad, but 10 were pretty good (I actually liked the one where Reyes was trapped in the 'doll house hospital').

The season finale wasn't what it could have been, but it was by no means the worst piece of trash ever on TV... All it was was a setup of the movie franchise, can't anyone see that?

I'll pay full price for both seasons, because some forget how bad 'everything else' was on TV at the time...

After the final five or so episodes of season 8 I was really excited about season nine. Then, when I realized the series finale was coming up in a few days I thought to myself "what the heck happened?" I was so excited about season nine and then seemingly....nothing. Right as the series finale was beginning I kid you not, the power in my neighborhood went out. I finally got ot see it a couple months ago when I got a copy from a friend. As has been said here already, I was left thinking "Ok, so? What's the point?". I watched the entire run of this show and was left constantly guessing but knowing that some time down the line there would be a great series finale that would at least tie up SOME of the plot twists. Bah, whatever.

How much input did Carter actually have in the final season? Was it his decision to move on to more movies? The ratings in the final season were horrible if I'm recalling correctly.

Oh and Annabeth Gish was terrible. There was one episode in season 8 where she was attacked in a hospital that I was really hoping she would die in. She was god-awful.

"at the time"? You're talking about the past two years. I don't think my memory is that bad yet. X-Files: Season 9 was on up against Alias: Season 1. X-Files lost that battle in my house.

Everyone obviously will have different opinions about this... some will love the later seasons, some will think they are "OK" and get them to complete the collection, others will think they suck and end the show at whatever season they feel is appropriate.

But I don't think it's a fair argument to claim that the later seasons were good because 'everything else' wasn't. There was plenty of great television available in the past two years (and plenty of crap too). That doesn't change my opinion that the last 4 seasons of X-Files pale in comparison to the first 5.

I concede that the last 4 seasons were 'weaker' and unfocused at times, but I maintain that they were still always better than average at all times.

Sometimes people get spoiled after 5-6 years of even a good show.

I kept hearing this from people, but i really enjoyed season 6 and 7, i never watched them on TV, but have loved owning these DVDs. I have watched season 1 5 or 6 times. I will be buying season 8 and 9 and the xbox game and hopefully several more major motion pictures
