How bad are the subtitles for the cowboy bebop movie?

according to the review on upcomingdiscs.com

I usually prefer the original language audio track w/ subtitles, but the English subtitles are so poor on this disc, I found that I got a lot more out of the film by watching the English dubbed track.
For those who have the dvd already, are they that bad or do you kind of have to know japanese to see that they suck.

Well, it turns out they are just fine. The subtitles don't match the dub, so thats why I think they were complaining. This is a litteral translation.

Geesh, what a bunch of retards... Who the hell wants DUBTITLES any way.

They seemed ok to me, although some things look a little stupid because of the literal translation.

They're just anime newbies....cut them some slack;)

Well, imo, what is good is that on the disney studio ghibili dvd's you have a choice of if you want the litteral translation, or the dubtitles.

Yes but nobody in their right mind would/should want dubtitles. If you are going to be a "purist" and watch it in the original language (which you should IMO) than you would most likely want to know what they are actually saying. They change way too many things in the dubs. Like on the Ghibli releases they add dialogue where there wasn't any in the original...god forbid there is any silence in the movie.

Of course, if the subtitle of the dub track are needed for the hearing impaired or what not than I can understand the need for them...but if you can't hear that well anyway watch the Japanese track :)
