Couch Potato

Does anybody know of some descent movies on DVD that have the option of chinese subtitles (not bootlegs). I want my parents to watch some films but they're not fluent in english so they need the subtitles.

Two titles which has this option are
Glory (2 disc edition)
Taxi Driver

Hope this helps; I used DVDPlanet's Power Search to search for DVDs with Chinese subtitles where the original language is English. You'll notice quite a few Columbia/Tri-Star titles listed; I think they're the only major studio that includes Chinese subtitles (along with Portuguese, Korean and Thai) on many of their DVDs.

"The One" (that crappy Jet Li film) had chinese subtitles on its R1 dvd.

i would suggest a) get the VCD or b) get the R3 edition dvd's.

i'm surprised that "The Pianist" was released earlier on R3.

Couch, I really suggest getting a multiregion player. You could then get a lot of Asian-market DVDs of western titles, with the chinese subtitles for your parents!

I've had my eye towards the same for my mother, whose English is not that great and really enjoys the subtitles. Some titles I am aware of (usually the special edition):

1. Legends of the Fall
2. Steel Magnolias
3. In the Line of Fire
4. Sense and Sensibility
5. A Few Good Men
6. Stand By Me
7. Bad Boys
8. Cliffhanger
9. My Best Friend's Wedding

check hivizone.com they are out of hong kong, the dvds are R3 but that is probably the closest that you are going to get for now.

The reason Columbia Tristar DVDs have Asian language subtitles is because they often release the same Reg 1 disks on Reg 3. I have quite a few of them and even the covers are identical (minus the barcode)

Somebody told me that for one of the editions of monty python and the holy grail, there was like one scene shown IN chinese with english subtitles, and it's a riot because I guess the chinese translation was horrible

You might want to check and see if either HKFlix or Poker Industries have any titles you want from Asia. Many of their titles are Region Free.
