Which version of Almost Famous?
 

So I am looking for some DVDs to buy this week and I have decided to buy Almost Famous. Is the Untitled edition worth the extra money? It is $25.68 as opposed to the $13.99 for the regular edition. I can't make up my mind whether to buy the regular version of Almost Famous and pick up American History X or just get the Untitled version of Almost Famous and wait until my next check to get American History X.. Any recommendations??

I would go with the untitled, I have it, I love it. It is worth the money. The extras added in are great, and the extras are top notch. I would say go with the definitive version of the movie. Although AHX is one of the better movies, IMO, I wouldwait till your check clears then go get it.

Untitled is definitely worth the money. If you liked the theatrical cut, you should love the extended version (too bad no DTS though). The extras and commentary track are great too. Its still one of my favourites in my collection.

My advice, if you don't care about having great extras, get the bare bones edition for 1/2 the money. Sometimes (a lot frequently) I just don't have the darn time to watch 3+ hours of extras and would like the option of having the movie without the bells and whistles for 1/2 the price.

Almost Famous - Untiltled Edition is one of the best movies I've seen.

Count me in as another vote for the Untitled/Bootleg edition. It's definitely worth the money and has nearly 30 mins. of extra footage. Definitely pick it up and grab AHX at your next opportunity.

Include me in with the votes for the bootleg edition. The untitled version of the movie is even better than the theatrical cut. It fleshes out the characters more and gives more details on some of the sub-plots. Also, the "Stairway to Heaven" deleted scene is excellent...only if you have a copy of the song "Stairway to Heaven."

You gotta go with the Untitled version. It has BOTH the extended and theatrical, plus a ton of extras.

Yes, if you know you want the movie, then you should definitely get the Bootleg edition.

Get the Untitled Edition. Also the cheapest way to purchase a copy is through Columbia House as an enrollment title, but it is only available by phone orders.

Definitely Untitled. I can guarantee you won't regret it.

I had a crush on Almost Famous: Theatrical Version, but I married the Untitled: Bootleg edition. That's another vote for that one.

I would go with Untitled without question--it's one of my all-time favorite movies and a great dvd at that. The commentary track is hilarious! How many directors get their mother to do a commentary track with them?

Get Untitled through Columbia House as a phone-only enrollment. It's got a lot of neat extras that put it over the barebones theatrical version.

If you follow what it does, you can pay about 17.40 for your first 6 DVDs, then another 39.88 in the next two years for 2 more DVDs (all that may vary depending on the code you use, but that's what I get on the code I use), then cancel right after that. So your total spent for 8 DVDs will be about 57.28 (assuming your in a no tax state).

I'm not a big fan of extras so I just bought the barebones edition, but I do wish I had the director's cut.

Then you should have bought the Untitled Edition. It's worth the price just for the director's cut alone, the commentary and extras are just icing on the cake.

My recommendation: neither. Pretty unbelievable story. First, I doubt Rolling Stone would let some kid write for them. Secondly, it's even more unlikely that the band would take him under their wing like that. Completely silly.

Ummm......Rolling Stone DID let some kid write for them back in the 70's. His name was Cameron Crowe.

Well, they really didn't "let some kid write for them".... They didn't know he was a kid. I love the movie and would definitely suggest to get the Untitled version. It's great.

Also, just so you know, American History X is also available for enrollment with Columbia House. I got both of these (AHX and AF: Untitled) from Columbia House.

I recommend getting the Untitled version, but If I'm going to watch the whole movie, not just a scene or two, then I usually watch the Theatrical cut. If you like the movie you will definately enjoy the extras.
